Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallous Rohani and Cindy Gordon.
Mallous and Cindy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Cindy Gordon and I (Mallous Rohani) worked together for several years at a local English language training school. There we were the curriculum and program directors respectively. In addition, we taught non-native speakers English for over a decade. When the school was having internal managerial troubles, we decided to embark on an endeavor to start our own school that would be ethical, effective and most of all enjoyable for our students. Since we both had some experience with curriculum and program design and were veteran teachers ourselves, we decided to open Excel English Institute. Starting with only 13 local students and one teacher whom we worked with for years and trusted, Cindy and I opened our doors January 2014.
For the past 4 years, we have worked diligently to provide stellar service to our student body. As a result, through word of mouth and positive reviews online, we have grown to almost 100 students, have obtained program accreditation and government certification to enroll students from abroad.
Excel has now grown to the point that it is relocating to a 10,000 square foot space off of Arapaho and Central Expressway. What started out as a dream, has finally become a reality for us both. To date, we have taught hundreds of students the skills necessary to speak, read, and write in English. These students have each helped shape our program to be one of the best English schools in Dallas.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With almost no business experience, the road to where Cindy and I are today was rough. Neither of us took pay for four years, but we were able to cover our school’s expenses and remain debt free. Our school is now becoming profitable, and the chance of drawing a salary in the near future is becoming a reality. Although Cindy and I have not had the means to pay ourselves, we often say we have had more fun and pleasure working without a paycheck at Excel than we did when we were getting paid at our other places of employment. The most gratifying feeling for us is that we took a chance to do something we had always spoken of and made it a reality. The people who have crossed our paths in the past four years have each played a role in the success we are experiencing today. From students to professional advisors who have come to the school, Excel English Institute has been an endeavor of collaboration, passion and the desire to serve the local and international community by providing English language skills to our students desiring to achieve their educational and professional goals.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Excel English Institute – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
In our global society, many people want and need English to grow professionally and academically. Excel English Institute has a premier English Language program that employs interactive language learning in a fun and comfortable environment. Our instructors are handpicked and trained to ensure every student has a positive and effective experience learning the English language and while being exposed to American culture. For many foreigners, being away from home and immersed in a new culture makes acclimating to life in the US difficult. However, the teachers and staff at Excel aim to make every student’s experience unforgettable and fruitful. The students become friends quickly as they make connections with people from all over the world. In fact, in the September session, there were 23 different countries represented in the student body.
What we are most proud of is that Excel English Institute went from a mere idea of its founders to a thriving school which is fully accredited and certified. What sets us apart from other schools is that we foster an environment of friendship and unity while celebrating the diversity that makes us unique.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Excel English Institute has definitely outgrown its space. In January of 2018, we will open our doors in a brand-new facility of over 10,000 sq. ft. In this new setting, we will have a new computer facility to aid students in their language skills and the capacity to serve double the student body we have now. With this added space, we can host many more fun and educational activities that students can participate in and enjoy.
