Meet Mamie Hudson of Lazy S Hacienda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mamie Hudson.

Hi Mamie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I decided to build the Lazy S Hacienda because I wanted to find a way to build value and produce income from our beautiful piece of property. After searching business ideas, the special event venue was the best option for our situation and for the property. I loved the idea of being in a business where we could provide a place where people would be celebrating with loved ones, feeling joy and happiness. For the actual inspiration of the style, I got that from visiting upscale Mexican resorts in the Tulum area and a visit to Marfa, TX and I have always loved the Spanish hacienda-style! We have been booked since we opened our doors last February. Although most of our events have been weddings, we also offer the venue to corporate or private parties for various events.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is never easy, but when you are passionate about it, then it is worth it. I am thankful for a very supportive family and staff. I also have had support from people already in this industry who have shown me the ropes and really helped me through the hurdles. We held our first event just over one year ago and have been so busy since, so I feel very fortunate to have been welcomed by vendors, professionals, and clients alike!

As you know, we’re big fans of Lazy S Hacienda. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our aesthetic is very different than most in Texas. Our hilltop views are gorgeous. And our clients rave about our bridal suite and groom suite – they are very well thought out and spacious! The unique details of the aesthetics (Modern Mexican) and the local artisan work included in the creation of the venue would be at the top of the list. From our huge, antique wooden doors to enter to the Talavera tile on our grand stairs to the handmade fringe chandelier made from tractor tires – that only gets us to the entry of the Lazy S Hacienda! Then as you come into the reception hall, you look straight back to a wall of sliding doors and our “Love Oak” tree in view. The reception hall sconces were handmade by an artist in New Mexico and the custom-made Macrame chandelier that hangs in the center is incredible. Then to enter the bridal suite, we have ornate antique wooden doors and more Spanish-style tiles on the inside. Included in the venue rental are custom wood tables. We include chairs as well. For the ceremony site, we have gorgeous bamboo chairs or custom benches. We have SO many incredible details! With such a unique aesthetic for this area, a Modern Mexican vibe, we like to say our venue is where Marfa meets Mexico.

We offer Weekend Wedding Collections so that you and your guests can enjoy a “destination type feel” but without having to travel far from home or out of the country. We have recently renovated the Hacienda Residence which transforms the venue into a boutique resort. The luxurious Hacienda Residence is under renovation and will be completed soon! This ranch-style home has gorgeous modern Mexican decor staying in line with our beautiful venue. It has 4 bedrooms and 4 private bathrooms, a large open concept kitchen and living area, as well as a rooftop deck. We have two master suites. These suites have large walk-in showers with double showerheads. Three of the bedrooms have patio doors giving them easy access to the backyard that includes a large pool with unbelievable countryside views. The Residence sleeps 8 in bedrooms and there is also a pullout bed that sleeps up to 2 in the private gym.

We offer our “Solo Dia” event which is your typical one full day event rental and we also offer “Tapas, Toasts and Tying the Knot” which is our twist on micro-weddings. We have something for everyone!

We have a huge bridal suite with a glam room and a living room with a full kitchen and bath. AND, we did not forget about the grooms and have a large suite connected to our stables that provide a place for fun and preparation. It is a 2-bedroom, 2 full bath suite with a living area and wet bar.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I have always been pretty easy-going, positive, and laid back. I loved horses and still do today! I have always had an entrepreneurial mindset and a love of fashion too, so I first started down that path including being a buyer for Nieman Marcus and then starting my own fashion report blog and website. I guess I have always been fairly independent but also love being with friends and family.
