Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Rouse.
Marc, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started getting really interested in film and TV back in high school. Our district had a vocational program called the Career Development Center that handled all sorts of job types and Radio & TV Broadcasting was one of the things they offered. So that’s where I got my start. Following graduation, I served four years in the Marine Corps. Then, I wanted to eventually attend San Diego State’s film school, but life got in the way and somehow, I ended up in Dallas and decided to enroll in KD Studio Actor’s Conservatory. That all leads up to about 1999 when I finally got a foothold in what I had always wanted to do. I’ve alternated between Independent Contractor and full time Video/Film Producer ever since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road in film and video is never an easy one. You have to be willing to endure all manner of indignity, vagary, and just plain crap to claw your way through this mess. I’ve essentially had to learn everything on my own. But in the end, when you’ve finished a project, somehow it all seems worth it. The craft and the art is good, but it’s the people you meet along the way are the real reason I do this.
Please tell us about Film Conspiracy Group.
Although I operate under several different entities, Film Conspiracy Group is my umbrella organization. I provide a multitude of services, from photography, audio engineering, recording & mixing, to film & video production. Within film and video, I wear multiple hats. Director of Photography, Editor, Effects & Compositing, and Colorist. I would say that what sets me apart is the range of my skillset, which I am continuously, with every project, striving to expand.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
You know, of all the tough questions for me, the “favorite childhood memory” one ranks fairly close to the top for although I have plenty of good memories, I can’t honestly say which of them is my favorite. What I can speak to regards not a single memory, but all the time I spent in the Colorado Mountains when I was growing up. I know that might sound odd coming from someone who’s spent the majority of their life in the flatlands of North Texas, but yeah, there it is. Every summit ascended, every trail scrabbled along, all the skiing can be looked back upon fondly. I do miss it profoundly.
