Meet Marcella M. Generalovich of PetiteGreek in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcella M. Generalovich.

Marcella M., let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
PetiteGreek (a nickname friends gave me) was started while I lived in Paris. I started to blog about my passions: travel, food, floral design and entrepreneurship. While living there, I met so many expats that created and started their own businesses. I was incredibly inspired and loved hearing their stories. I knew so many other entrepreneurs in all industries that had incredible stories to tell, and video and social media were the perfect platforms to use. As an advertising executive in my past career, I knew this was a unique way for a business owner to break through the advertising clutter and get their business noticed. My video series, THEIR STORY TOLD promotes and creates awareness for local businesses while connecting founders authentically to their audience, by hearing their stories of humble beginnings to success, which ultimately leads to sales.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a new company from the ground up and making a career change at the same time is never easy. From owning a retail boutique, art gallery, floral and event design company for over eight years (The Urban Blossom), to getting back into advertising (my past career) and starting a company with a non-traditional niche definitely has a learning curve. Gone is the mindset of “this is how it’s always been” or “it has always worked this way.” The world has changed dramatically with the influence of social media I feel for the better, but it’s a different way to do business and learning everything I possibly can and applying it to better my clients is key.

Being patient in business is more difficult today I feel, especially in a world of insta this and insta that, meaning instant gratification. Rome (or Beyoncé) wasn’t built in a day, and it’s important to remember this but challenging while living among a filtered social media life. Continually being focused on my own goals and not falling into the comparison game of others is difficult to be honest, and I feel many entrepreneurs go through this because of social media and how “perfect” life looks. When in reality, we’re all struggling with the same challenges, it’s just not spoken about as often as it should. Which is the reason I’m doing what I’m doing. To shed light on the entrepreneurial life while promoting small businesses. Showing the true challenges and stresses of starting a business, to celebrating their successes and wins, telling the authentic stories of inspiration.

PetiteGreek – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
PetiteGreek’s mission is to tell the stories of the passionate entrepreneur through video and social media, while breaking through the advertising clutter. Bringing their journey of failure and success to life, in order to inspire us, promote their business and ultimately increase sales. My video series, THEIR STORY TOLD promotes and creates awareness for local businesses while connecting founders authentically to their audience, by hearing their stories of humble beginnings to success, which ultimately leads to sales.

What sets my company apart is that I’m sharing authentic success stories with the help of the founders I’m interviewing and promoting. So many founders of companies have incredibly inspiring stories that never get told or heard. It’s through these stories that we find encouragement and motivation to go after our own dreams.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success by living my life to the fullest, while feeling fulfilled at the same time. If I’m working towards my goals and accomplishing them, using my talents to the best of my abilities by doing what I’m passionate about, helping others accomplish their dreams and experiencing the world and life by traveling with the means to do it, then that’s 100% success for me!
