Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcos Garcia.
Hi Marcos, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am the proud founder of Team Quality Boxing Academy, currently based in Southeast Dallas and soon relocating for expansion into the Mesquite area. My journey began at 14 years old, when I first stepped into the ring and discovered a deep passion for boxing. Life brought its challenges early I became a father at 18, which meant stepping up to provide for my son while still holding onto my love for the sport.
In 2014, I was invited to coach at Young Guns Boxing Club, and that opportunity became the turning point of my career. From there, I dedicated myself to shaping champions, guiding athletes to Golden Gloves victories and coaching national-level competitors. After years of hard work and perseverance, 2024 marked a milestone: the opening of Team Quality Boxing Academy.
Today, I am fortunate to lead alongside outstanding coaches and work with fighters who bring discipline and determination to every training session. My son now stands as the #1 boxer in the USA in his division, and our academy continues to develop promising amateurs while training professionals, including Frank Martin poised to become a future world champion and other rising prospects.
This journey has been about more than boxing; it’s about building a community, inspiring the next generation, and proving that with resilience, passion, and teamwork, dreams can be transformed into reality.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has certainly had its share of ups and downs. From the disappointment of canceled shows to the excitement of events with incredible turnouts, each experience has been part of the reality of boxing. Challenges are inevitable in this sport, but they also serve as reminders of the resilience it demands. At the end of the day, boxing is more than just an activity, it’s a passion and a way of life. Despite the obstacles, my commitment remains unwavering because this is the sport I love, and living it every day is what drives me forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At the end of the day, I’m a boxing coach who believes in building fighters from the ground up. I work with beginners, amateurs, and pros, but my purpose is bigger than teaching combinations or footwork. I’m focused on developing boxers with extraordinary quality and that’s exactly why we’re known as Team Quality Boxing Academy. I want every athlete who walks through our doors to carry discipline, respect, and real heart both inside and outside the ring.
This year was a big one for us. We hosted our very own two-day tournament, and it was an incredible experience. We had amazing fights and talented boxers from all over the country come out. Seeing our community show up the way they did, and seeing our team and supporters come together, made it a truly successful weekend for us and for our city.
On a personal level, one of my proudest moments was watching my son, Ethan Garcia, compete in the 2025 USA Junior Olympics in Las Vegas. He brought home a gold medal and became the #1 ranked 101-lb bantamweight in the nation. As a father and as his coach, it was a moment that humbled me. Seeing all his hard work pay off reminded me why I love what I do.
I’ve also had the privilege of training some incredible pros, including Frank Martin ‘The Ghost’ along with many other talented fighters. Having athletes at that level trust me with their careers is something I never take lightly.
What sets me apart isn’t anything fancy. It’s the way I approach the work with intention, consistency, and respect for the craft. Whether someone is stepping into the ring for the first time or preparing for a big fight, my goal is always the same: to help them become the highest-quality version of themselves. If I can play even a small part in their journey, then I know I’m doing what I’m meant to do.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I had a hustler’s mindset. Always chasing opportunities to learn and succeed. I’ve always been adventurous, drawn to the outdoors and new experiences, and I thrive on staying active and on the go. Over time, I’ve learned the importance of structure, now making it a priority to plan and organize my calendar to balance my commitments. Personality-wise, I can be tough and disciplined, but I also know how to lighten the mood with humor. My guiding motto has always been: ‘Put in the work and it will pay dividends. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but in time the results will show.’
Beyond my personal drive, my greatest interest is in impacting the lives of those who walk into our gym. I want every person to know they aren’t just members. They’re family. My vision is to build champions not only inside the ring but in life itself, instilling discipline, confidence, and resilience. And while I’m committed to shaping lives, I’m equally determined to bring home a world championship or multiple. It’s coming!
My softer side shines with my family, who are my deepest motivation. My children, Maleni and Ethan, are my world, and my wife Blanca has been my constant source of support. For them, and because of them, I remain deeply grateful and driven.
