Meet Maria Botham of Hair Fairies – The Head Lice Helpers in NorthPark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Botham.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Maria. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Here’s the real story!

I was reading the wall sheet journal 20 years ago about how problematic head lice is and how there was no remedy on the horizon.

Shampoo companies couldn’t go more toxic because they were already at a level of poisonous that was at maximum.

It was official: head lice can live through a nuclear bomb!!

It dawned on me even if these products worked or they came out with something stronger that worked our society was completely moving away from these harsh chemicals and wouldn’t dare use them if they had an all-natural alternative approach they could trust.

I’ve always been an entrepreneur and have the experience and know how in developing other concepts so I got to thinking if I could create an effective methodology that manually removed head lice with an All Natural product to aid…I’d having something great!

So I put my head down for 3 years solid and worked for 12 hours a day 7 days a week making it happen! I found pediatricians who would work with me and recommend families that came into their office with lice. It slowly grew into home service and one by one I developed our nit-zapping process that was iron clad.

Next step product! I took my live specimen (very difficult for shampoo companies to attain live specimen to test their product…a very good opportunity for hair fairies because we got to use our own bugs and eggs daily for testing. Impossible for many others!!) And worked one on one with chemists in clinical trials to find exactly the right formula and ingredients.

All friends and family (except for my parents!) thought I was crazy.

After being uber successful with home service (just me on the road) I opened the first hair fairies in Los Angeles knowing my dream and vision (and understanding of the market) was not just one or two but 300!!! If not more…

It feels like yesterday and I’d do what I do for free (and at times I have) because hair fairies means the world to me!!!

My vision is to privately build an empire where we can give stellar opportunists to people and create a hierarchy that exudes happiness, professionalism and leadership!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? Uhhhhh nooooo. Passionate, exciting and fulfilling…yes.

ECO-CONSCIOUS MANUFACTURING
We make our products in small batches to keep our ingredients fresh and naturally potent — without preservatives for longer shelf life. To maintain purity, we also deionize our water to achieve a high microbial testing count of 10 (a typical norm is between 300-400). Deionized water is a type of purified water with mineral ions (salts) removed. Such salts are the source of most of the impurities in water.

Hair Fairies is committed to the highest standards of environmentally conscious manufacturing. We hold a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification, NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) Compliance for product safety and USDA Organic Certification.

Our goal: to produce the highest quality products while reducing waste, water and energy use, raw materials and packaging. At least 30% of our electricity comes from natural renewable sources, such as water and wind.
