Meet Maria Rincon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Rincon.

Maria, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Dallas and graduated from JJ Pearce Highschool in 2005. I was blessed to receive a full academic scholarship to Arizona State University, so I moved to Arizona and lived in the Scottsdale/Tempe area for seven years. Although the plan was always law school, my path definitely took a different turn and I ended up giving birth to my twin boys, Liam and Lukah in 2013. We moved back to Dallas when the boys were five months old so I could be close to my parents. Unfortunately, the situation with their father was not a great one, and after we moved to Dallas it only got worse. I quit my job to stay at home with the kids for the first year of their lives, we had blown through my savings, sold my car and the environment at home was becoming increasingly more volatile. At this point, I had no car, no job, no money, a 430 credit score, and two 13-month-old babies. I felt trapped, and although I have such loving and supportive parents who always came to my rescue, I felt like a failure with no option but to stay and endure the abuse.

I finally made the decision to take my kids and leave the situation we were in one night in February 2014. It was a split-second decision, and the best one I’ve ever made. We moved in with my parents who helped me get my real estate license at the end of March 2014. From then on I hit the ground running- building a business from scratch through cold calling, door knocking and open houses. In just over two years, I was able to go from essentially being homeless to making six figures and doubling that over the following two years. In 2018, I bought my first house (off-market from a cold call) in the elementary school I wanted my kids to go to but didn’t think I could afford. It’s our home, and it’s perfect.

In 2019, I helped my Mother get licensed in real estate as well and now, she is working with me. I am on pace to have my best year ever in real estate and am also the Founder of a startup in super early stages called Pandome, (stay tuned for more on that!). To look back five years ago, I never would have thought I would be where I am today. Now, I know I can build anything/do anything/be anyone I set my mind to, and I want to spread that message to other women and mothers that might feel trapped in unhealthy situations. If I can do it against literally ALL odds, anyone can.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been a ton of struggles. Raising twins as a single mom with no child support and no partner on a 100% commission based income is only something a crazy person would do. I am that crazy person!

One of my biggest struggles is making sure I spend quality time and remain fully present when I’m with Liam and Lukah. Real estate is one of those industries that never stops. I have to set very clear boundaries with my clients so that my kids don’t always feel like mommy works nonstop. That’s really tough to do when you’re the sole provider for your family.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Maria Rincon Realty at Keller Williams is all about Real Estate With Intention, and our mission is to change lives through the means of real estate. There are over 45,000 real estate agents in DFW and countless discount brokers and disruptors like Open Door and Redfin. Our company sets itself by entrenching ourselves in the market and studying it daily so that we may be the best advisors to our clients. We get to know our clients and their needs on a deep level, and build a relationship that long outlasts the transaction. Our clients’ trust is our number one priority, and we are intentional about being a resource for life.

The industry has changed, you no longer need a realtor to find your house or even sell your house, but we are talking about some of the largest assets anyone will ever own in their lifetime. People deserve an agent that represents their best interest and treats their money like its their own. That’s how we treat every client, every time. It’s about being the best advisors we can possibly be, and making our clients feel special every step of the way.

What were you like growing up?
I would say I was a pretty intense child. The youngest of five, I was always trying to act more mature than my age and impress my sisters. My parents owned their own business, so I grew up going to work with them, watching them work extremely hard as sole proprietors to provide for our family, and witnessing the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. I definitely got my work ethic from my parents. They would produce these huge events at Fair Park and Artist Square in Downtown Dallas and my sisters and I would work from a young age selling coupons, concessions or whatever they needed. I even sold fruit bars at the State Fair of Texas at age eight. I guess you could say I was a natural-born into sales!
