Today we’d like to introduce you to Maribel Cisneros.
Maribel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I find it so ironic that I found myself in the makeup industry! I was never the one to experiment with makeup. I literally would just wear eyeliner & mascara, lol, only because I had such oily skin. I tried eyeshadows but they would just smear away. It wasn’t until I started living with my tia that I started getting more into makeup. She always does her makeup every single day & I started to try & do the same. I started off with jousting my brothers & my sister’s eyebrows & I loved how I felt after. One day, I asked my sister if I could do her makeup & when I looked at my finished work I felt little butterflies & I’ve never felt that feeling before & that’s when I knew that doing makeup was something I wanted to pursue! Fast forward to 2015, I met my sister-in-law & they LOVE makeup! They taught me a lot more things about makeup like primer & contouring. I started to invest in my small makeup collection. Since then, I had been debating on which school I should go to. It wasn’t until 2018 that my sister in law got invited to an event at boss beauty makeup academy & she invited me to go with her. I loved that it was ALL about makeup & so I signed up & started my classes that December! I graduated in March of 2019, so I’ve only been doing makeup professionally for a few months but every time I get a new client I get excited & hope that they experience a relaxing time & leave feeling beautiful. ♡
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m thankful that I didn’t have it too hard but it was a struggle financially. I sometimes didn’t know if I was going to be able to pay for school or a certain bill but by the Grace of God, I got through it. I couldn’t have gotten through it without the support of my family & my boyfriend. They helped me so much especially when it came to my homework. Another struggle I faced was being able to purchase extra makeup for class or just to put in my kit. Makeup adds up & quick at that! I love what I do & these small obstacles only motivate me to go that much harder for the thing I love. ♡
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a freelance makeup artist in the Dallas, Fort Worth area. I usually travel to my client’s home so they could be comfortable & have that relaxing feeling while getting their makeup done. I specialize in all types of makeup from soft glam to neutral to a full face beat! I feel like what sets me apart from others is that I try to connect with each of my clients on a deeper level. I try my best to help them feel relaxed & pampered no matter what makeup service they choose. Building relationships with my clients is a rewarding feeling because you know that they feel comfortable with you & trust you & that you value them as a person. ♡
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
How I personally define success is the small steps you make each day to reach your ultimate goal. It’s all about the little details that help paint the bigger picture. I know that motivation is easy to lose but being disciplined is what helps you be successful. Consistency is another big factor in determining your success. Without consistency, there’s no progress & you stay stuck in the same place over & over. I know it may sound cliche but passion is another thing that can define your success because, without passion, you just give mediocre effort. When you have passion for what you do, you give it all your effort, time & energy. With passion, discipline & consistency, I feel like those things combine helps a person become the success that they are.
