Today we’d like to introduce you to Marina Davalos.
Hi Marina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story isn’t too complicated, I went to school for art and have always been in art classes. I have a very creative mind and have always loved putting things together that you can build on or take away from. For the longest time, I thought my passion and strengths were in the makeup/beauty industry. I had even signed up for two schools and been accepted to both at different times but something was always just keeping me from 100% committing to them. There was definitely a puzzle piece missing. Later on, when everything was shut down, and being a stay-at-home mom, you watch way too much YouTube and videos and I saw here and there balloon creations and balloon art. I needed to do something that I could be artistic with, not leave my child too much, and something I can do home and create from home. Something just felt so whole whenever I thought about how much I wanted to create and be involved in this industry. Things I knew I could easily learn and perfect. I started buying amazon balloons and making little things but realized these balloons were not what all of these amazing balloon artists were using. So, I started diving in deeper and buying the balloons needed, making things for free and giving them away, and then once I took Tanias (Unique Decor Dallas) class I had never felt so at home and at peace. I knew this is what I wanted to do professionally.
Today I still have things to learn but I’m loving being in this industry. There are so many loving and helpful women in this industry and it’s so nice to have fellow creators rooting for you and hyping you up. It feels positive and I love it. I love being able to come up with ideas and plans unique to my brain. Of course, we all get inspo from other creators but some things are completely made within my own mind and I love seeing them turn out to be mine and the client’s vision.
Parties, events, gifts, they are all so fun!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say it’s been pretty smooth for me. I am surrounded by a lot of positive people in this industry! The women I have met are so supportive and that’s a huge blessing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’d say I’m part of the party and event industry. I make balloon decor, bouquets, and creations. I customize it to every client’s wants and needs. I’d say I specialize more in bouquets, but I am loving making garlands so far. Most of my orders at the moment are garlands actually! I’m most proud of doing this all on my own with the help and support of my family. It’s not easy diving into something you didn’t have any previous knowledge of but I’d say I’m doing pretty great so far.
You want people to be happy with what they see. It needs to be aesthetically pleasing and I’d say I make it happen.
What sets me apart is being a part of other industries and knowing this is 100000% what I’m meant to do. This isn’t just about money for me, it’s about making memories and having the ability to do that for other people.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Being a stay-at-home mom doesn’t have to just be that. You can do things like this that can become a profession and include your children. I don’t take my son to set up jobs because I need to focus on clients and give them my whole attention and care (plus we are in terrible twos) But I can take my son with me to get the balloons and supplies. I can fill orders in our home, I can make the orders in our home, I can inflate balloons in our home and include him in all of that. I didn’t know I would have something like this when I had him and I’m so thankful that I can be a full-time mom and balloon artist at the same time.
