Meet Márissa Chibli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Márissa Chibli.

Márissa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been singing my whole life, ever since I could remember, and I picked up the guitar when I was 12. I always enjoyed performing in front of an audience, whether it was elementary school talent shows, or putting on some little show where I was a “pop star” in front of my family. I started playing my guitar and singing as a hobby at the local restaurants in my neighborhood when I was 16, and this was just me singing like 10 songs total. It quickly turned into my job, and it felt like it happened overnight. I now play full gigs 3 times a week at various locations scattered around DFW. I’m very blessed that I get to do what I love as my job. I perform for a lot of weddings, birthdays and other private events as well. In 2014 I began to work on my own original songs in a studio, and that’s when I became a Latin recording artist. For my first 6 years, I was creating with producer Chris Salmeron who helped me tremendously build my brand as an artist. I’ve released songs that have been played on 107.9 Latino Mix, and a moment I’m most proud of in my career so far has got to be opening up for Karol G in March of 2018. Right now, I’m preparing for my next single release on April 2nd. The song is called “Celular” and the music video will be on YouTube.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being an independent artist, there’s no way you’re NOT going to struggle. Almost every check I get from my job goes towards my music. Every person my age around me is putting their money towards their future house, future family, future wedding. So far, I’m not doing any of those things. I’m investing everything I have into my music career. So it can be overwhelming or discouraging at times, but these things are normal with being in the music business. It’s tough, but I can’t let the negative override the hard work I’ve put into it. You have to stay focused, stay positive, and keep going.

Please tell us about your music.
I sing Latin music, specifically Reggaeton. There’s a lot of artists in DFW, but there’s not many female Reggaeton artists. I’m proud to say I fall in a small percentage of them. I’m a Mexican and Lebanese woman singing Reggaeton music, and I’d say that is what sets me apart from everyone else. I love to dance, and I love to get people up and dancing. So I’m always striving to create songs with great dance beats that people can vibe to.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?
Within the next 5-10 years, I hope to be touring the country, maybe the world. Also, living in Miami, where the Latin music community is at.
