Meet Marissa Hornsby of House Of Noelle in Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Hornsby.

Marissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been a big supporter when it comes to body positivity, women being/feeling great, and women in this generation rising above a lot of stigmas we face from our society. So, when I came across the opportunity to be a boutique for ALL women, I went for it. Where I’m from in Austin, Texas there are not a lot of boutiques that cater to every type of woman or every body type, and I wanted to change that. I researched for at least two months before I actually started promoting myself, no brand name, business page or anything like that. Literally, I would post on Facebook every day 10x a day hoping someone would see it and buy. Along the way, of course, mistakes were made and some worry, but it was worth it all. From the beginning to now, I can say with the deeper engagements I’ve had with customers, my genuine personality, and my drive to be more than just a boutique and be a movement is how I’ve grown better from when I first started.

Has it been a smooth road?
A smooth road I believe would be an easy one and that’s something uncommon for many entrepreneurs. There have been a few moments where I wasn’t sure of myself or my brand. There have been times where I’m my own worst enemy and I criticize my self more than a little bit. Constantly, I was panicking, “Am I picking styles that will work for any kind of woman?” “Am I promoting myself correctly?” “What am I not doing enough of?” Luckily, I have a strong support system within my family and friends, who push me to stay focused and reassure me even through my growing pains. Honestly, there are so many struggles you face while building your brand and if it wasn’t for my support system I don’t think I’d be where I am now in my business. They’re the greatest, lol.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the House Of Noelle story. Tell us more about the business.
‘House Of Noelle’ specializes in handpicking trendy styles for women, sizes ranging from small to 5xl, and we provide collections for our customers to shop each season. The overall goal for ‘House Of Noelle’ is to cater to any kind of woman, and me being a plus-size woman myself knowing my own personal obstacles with finding clothes I’d actually wear, I take pride in providing must-have styles for EVERY kind of woman. The difference between my boutique and other boutiques is that I actually take the time to know my customers and know what they want. I take polls and ask for feedback to ensure that my brand is on the right path. A small convo and friendly girlfriend advice when finding a customer “the perfect outfit”, leads to successful customer experience and a great path to have them purchase again, every time. Although profiting is ideal and needed when you’re a business owner, also creating something that helps instill confidence and promotes body positivity for ALL body types is important to me and my brand.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In 5-10 years, I see myself with my clothing brand being well known and having a full-on brand with everything a woman needs to complete her outfit. I have so many ideas that brew day and night, but timing is everything and I know eventually, I’ll be able to transition from what I’m doing now to having a design team to collaborate with and introduce styles/designs the world hasn’t seen yet. Fashion constantly changes and so do people, so it’ll be interesting to see what awaits for House Of Noelle.
