Today we’d like to introduce you to Maritza Echevarria.
Hi Maritza, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my career in insurance in 2008. At the time I was working as a Regional Director of Sales for Verizon Super Pages, and one of my clients Kevin McWhorter was a new Insurance Agent with State Farm. When we met, he immediately said that I was a perfect fit for the industry. We stayed in touch and when Verizon decided to invest into FIOS and restructured our department I knew it was time for me to move on. I called Mr. McWhorter and joined his agency. As time progressed, he moved into a role as a District Manager for Farmers Insurance, and I opened my first Agency under him. This happened at a challenging time in my personal life and in 2011 I decided to sell the agency and went to work with Allstate Insurance with Park Cities Agency. As I performed my duties, I developed great relationships with leadership that led me to leading one of the first 50 Allstate Auto Dealer Program Agencies. This was a new program Allstate endeavored into with auto dealership owners to open an insurance agency inside their dealership. I spent 6 years leading the agency at Friendly Chevrolet. This set the stage for where I am today. That change took place in 2019 when I joined Liberty Mutual Insurance who branched us off into being Insurance Brokers as Comparion Insurance Agency. I currently serve in the Board of Directors for Women’s Council of Realtors Collin County. I’m a Co-founder of two networking groups who help the growth and development of other industry professionals. These are Brokers Elite and Inner Circle. Currently get to inspire and support others as guest motivational speaker of local podcasts and other programs that allow me to mentor incoming business entrepreneurs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life worth having will ever be easy to accomplish. Yes, I have had challenges that have not allowed a smooth ride not only in my career but my personal as well. As a single mother alone, it brought many challenges. From balancing my daughter’s activities to her health issues while developing a foundation of security was one of the most challenging moments. Yet one of the most rewarding ones. I say that as in 2019 I was able to see my daughter walk into Texas A&M as a freshman not with scholarships or loans but with me paying tuition all on my own. In 2021 I was faced with a major surgery that had her have to stop school for a moment to take care of me. Only to discover that I was going to end up in and out of the operating rooms. Thanks to her grace and God’s mercy I now can say I survived it all this far. And soon enough she will be able to resume school and complete her degree. This is just some of the roadblocks I’ve faced. It’s only made me stronger as I’m thankful for every challenge and the lessons I’ve learned from it. It certainly teaches you to appreciate life in a whole different level.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an Insurance Broker I get to work with families and individuals that seek to protect their everyday life. Home, Auto, Life, Business etc. I get to create a space for safety, security, and peace of mind. This is done by simply allowing myself to learn of their needs, wants, and desires. Listening to the key factors that gives me the tools to educate them on their own necessities. Yes, their necessities because insurance shouldn’t be about what the law or mortgage requires but about your unique individual protection. It’s a safety net or security blanket towards the future or the unknown. I would have to say that I am known for building lasting relationships with my clients and industry colleagues. Also, my servant heart! I strive to be where I am needed. What I’m most proud of it’s not the accolades I accomplish in my profession but the TRUST that my clients deposit in me. Knowing that when something happens, they think of me as a resource for the solution to the situation at hand. That I’m considered part of their family’s safety it’s the biggest reward in what I consider my pride. As participants of an industry that is so competitive I can seat here and boast about what sets me apart BUT let’s face it. We all have something that does that. We are all unique in our own ways. So, I called a couple of individuals and asked them to tell me in their opinion what sets me apart. It turns out that the answers I was getting were all in common, MY HONESTY. I’ve always said that my honesty it’s my biggest attribute, and it’s nice to know that is what most recognize.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
For most part I’m an open book and can’t think of something that would be of a surprise. Maybe some might not know that I am a beauty pageant queen in Puerto Rico. This actually is a big part in what developed my abilities to stand and work well in different settings or circumstances.
