Meet Marquetta Sweat of Styledbyq

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquetta Sweat.

Hi Marquetta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started doing hair in 2017 when i decided to cut all my hair off. I just did my hair and some of my friends. I never charged them, i just did it for fun. In 2019 i started taking it serious. I would take appointments but charge ladies little to nothing. I moved to Dallas in 2019 and thought i wanted to finish college at UTA, but there was a change in plans. Covid hit in 2020 and everyone was on lock down but all the ladies still wanted to get their hair done, so that year i decided to go full time hair. From 2020 until now i have been a full time hairstylist. In 2024 i decided to get my cosmetology license. I graduated in August of 2024. I graduated with 3 jobs offers. Now in August of 2025 i have been working full time at the Dry Bar salon in uptown Dallas (since February) and i am also looking for a suite to take my clients outside of dry bar salon

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This has not been a smooth road. I moved to Dallas and had to built my own clientele from the ground up. I remember when i first started i would go days or even weeks without a client and i would be so heart broken. This is a very competitive industry so i was kinda discouraged at the beginning but i kept pushing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
This name of my business is called StyledbyQ. I specialize in natural hair and lace, but i can do any and every style. I am best known for my service being quick and for being very detailed about my work. I am very picky about every install i do. I like not one hair out of place. I am most proud of myself for growing my business without the help of others. A lot of my clients come from word of mouth..that means i must be doing something right. I want people to think of me as someone who can do your hair correctly while getting you and out. No one wants to be at the salon all day, they have other things to do. I also have affordable prices so you are not paying an arm and a leg.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me most is my clients coming back. If they are coming back that means i am crossing all t’s and dotting all i’s

Pricing:

  • Wig Install – $120
  • Silk press – $65
  • Quick weave – $75
