Today we’d like to introduce you to Marta Ruiz.
Marta, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
This dream started over 16 years ago in my hometown (Cali Colombia). I meet this politician that offered to pay the design school to me four other ladies, I was a model at this time. Well things wasn’t like I want it. This man asked for those kinds of favors to be able to pay for school well this was the end of my dream, I was the only one who didn’t get the school pay after I say no to him. Well like I said before I was so sure that it was the end of my dream after a few years I did make to this country and one day after talking with my daughter about how important is to fight for you dream.
I got that one question: Mami what about your dream? When are you gonna make it happen?
I will not be a little girl forever, one day you will have to start dreaming again
So what are you waiting for?
She asked me those questions so many times that made realize that it was true and I was time for my dream
So this is how everything started.
My first show was the plus-size fashion show by mosetta bolden. It was my first collection ever, My tutu collection (Khornelia 96) my grandma name. And from there it has been so many others shows Dallas fashion week, Teen fashion week ( I was the winner ) Quilombo( fashion show in Colombia 2018) over 10.000 people as audience Diffa Dallas ( jacket donation) And many others. Together with a few magazines, rare magazine and our wedding magazine.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been an amazing time, Always learning. Opening new doors every time. I called it blessing.
Please tell us about work.
I specialize in clothes design, Dresses and shoes are my things. Being able to make your dream dress is my motto. Thinking out the box make me different from another designer and bringing with each one of my pieces a little bit of my Colombia
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I have to say that I m bless to be here it has been almost 15 years of blessings. Friendship the hard part of it is that being a Colombian made me a passionate woman. I love to hug and not everyone is comfortable with it.
