Meet Martie Geron-Simon of Iced Two Perfection in Hurst

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martie Geron-Simon.

Martie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Baking came quite naturally to me; the talent for decorating, however, was a huge surprise. Surrounded by traditional artists should’ve been a clue, but my talent wasn’t discovered until I made my own wedding cake in 2013 much to the surprise of everyone that has ever known me. Even though the skill was raw back then, the passion was born and both have grown exponentially with each cake or cupcake that goes out the door.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been blessed by having a supportive husband which has allowed me complete freedom to develop my skills and clientele at a comfortable pace as opposed to having to rely on my skills as income.

Iced Two Perfection – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Iced Two Perfection is a custom cake/cupcake business priding ourselves on the fact that “good cake doesn’t need icing.” My favorite part of the whole process is developing a concept with a client and then seeing the end results of that twinkle of an idea. While I enjoy creating every item I decorate, out of the ordinary requests are where I thrive. Traditional celebration cakes are our bread and butter, of course, but anything from sculpted cars, dinosaur heads and baby elephants to gravity-defying chandelier cakes are where we excel. Quite frankly, there truly isn’t a request I’m not willing to tackle.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m honored to be a part of an organization called Icing Smiles. It connects bakers with terminally or chronically ill children and their siblings. I have been called upon for three different occasions to bake four different cakes all containing a “Wow” factor. The most recent call to action was for a set of twins celebrating their first birthdays. One twin was the benefactor of Icing Smiles while the other baby was perfectly healthy. The gratitude from this family was more than my heart could take and both babies were so incredibly sweet. While all of the cakes I’ve made through this organization have been labors of love, this last set of cakes was so incredibly humbling. I’m so glad I’m able to give back in some way.
