Meet Mary Cantwell of Rest To Your Nest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Cantwell.

Mary, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Of course. It all started with a personal experience of my own. As I was preparing for my first child, I made sure to go to all the birth related classes on how to take care of your child to the birth itself. I felt ready to tackle this new journey of parenthood and I come from a large family so I thought I totally can handle this! The first few months were pretty typical in regards to sleep. My son was up every few hours and then we had some nice stretches of 4-5 hours. Once he hit 4 months, his sleep starting getting more erratic and we were all over the place when it came to sleep. The more I tried to get his sleep on track the worse it got. Fast forward to about 8 months and we were not much better then we were before. I had hit a wall! My son was not happy, My husband and I had concerns that I was suffering from possible postpartum depression and the lack of sleep from the sleepless nights with my son were only making things worse.

At that point, I made it my mission to learn everything there was about children’s sleep and with lots of love, trial and error and determination we had a baby that was sleeping through the night! I remember how incredibly lost I felt and I wanted to help others struggling with their children’s sleep.

I received my certification from the Family Sleep Institute after completing 250+ hours of course work. We work with families with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children that are struggling with sleep concerns with their child such as sleeping through the night, going to bed peacefully, sleeping in their own crib/bed, elongating naps and coordinating schedules with twins/triplets to name a few.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This all started with a struggle of my own that turned into a passion for helping others, so yes there was struggles from the beginning. My passion and focus is helping families with sleep but there is so much that I had to learn on the flip side, which is running a business and not allowing it to run me. There are many facets of marketing, SEO optimization, administrative tasks to website hosting that I had to learn, which are outside of helping families with sleep. As Rest To Your Nest has grown, I have grown personally from a business perspective and how I go about utilizing my time wisely so that I can dedicate the right amount of time and attention into the families that rely on my guidance and support.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rest To Your Nest – what should we know?
I am a pediatric sleep consultant and founder of Rest To Your Nest. We work with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children with sleep concerns ranging from sleeping through the night, elongating naps, sleeping in their own crib/bed, coordinating schedules for twins/triplets and going to bed peacefully. We do this either in your own home or remotely via phone. I work with four different methods when it comes to learning sleep because each family is different and each child is different. Together we pick the method that works for the family and I guide and support them for two weeks via daily email check-ins and 4 schedule phone calls. This support is crucial since children don’t always go by the book and we will need to tweak and adjust things during our time together.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First off, my husband has been a big supporter. He has been a part of this journey from the beginning with our own experience with our first child. I also am blessed to have a wonderful local birth community that are all part of my support system! I have had advocates from the beginning and am truly grateful for the women that have crossed my path.
