Meet Mary Katz of Youth and Lashes in Colleyville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Katz.

Mary, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been a medical esthetician for 11 years and when I had my first child, I stopped working. After 2 wonderful years of being home with my daughter, I started to miss my passion. Which is making other women look and feel beautiful. At that point I wanted to retain some freedom but continue my career. In 2014, I started my company working from home and using my current friends on social media.

Some people would come to my house and others I would travel to theirs. The business grew fairly quickly and before I knew it, I had people I didn’t know looking for appointments. That was when my husband Ian, and I decided it would be best if I had a small room somewhere. We knew we were on to something and wanted to spend some money marketing.

In April of 2016, I got a room at the Phoenix Salon Suite in Colleyville, TX with one mission in mind. We wanted to make it affordable for everyone to enjoy the most recent esthetic fads.

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup that is the hottest trend in beauty at the moment. With a tiny razor like tool, we make micro incisions, (also known as micro pigmentation), to insert ink into the middle layer of the dermis. What this technique does is leave 3D hairline strokes that create a real and natural effect. The end result is a woman will no longer need to pencil or fill in her eyebrows. As a working mom, the time I save getting ready is worth its weight in gold. I wake up with half my makeup done by having my brows bladed and my eye lash extensions in. Woman are paying upward of $750 for 1 session of microblading. It’s insane!! Some technicians will stall the process so it takes them 3 hours but the truth is, it’s a 90 minute treatment. More concerned with helping women than making money, we priced our microblading treatments at $225. With our impeccable ratings and reviews, we could easily reach up and double the cost in our salon but refuse to do so. My mission has now become to put eyebrows on everyone in the metroplex that wants them, not only those that can afford them.

They say if you love what you do and treat people well, things will fall into place. For us, by the grace of god, they did. In less than a year we have secured a 2,100 square foot facility. With 3 other technicians, I am proud to say that I do not think any salon has done more brows than us in 2017. We treat everyone with respect and have become a player in what we have begun to call, “The Great Eyebrow Epidemic”. Every woman that likes to put her best face forward needs better eyebrows. Especially in this fast paced world we live in today.

On top of Microblading, we are one of the few salons that offer true 3D Volume Lashes. The lash factories are hiding this style because they can’t justify the time required to do it properly. Again, our mission has never been to make a fortune. A classic set is beautiful but I feel that when it comes to eyelashes, you need to go big or go home. Our 3D Volume Lashes are done by connecting not 1 but 3 extensions to every lash creating a fanning affect to fill the lash line more than ever before. It’s the true Hollywood look that women desire.

Have these 2 treatments, along with results driven facials, we have grown more than I ever thought we could in just one year. We will also be adding some exciting new treatments in the coming months. It is an exciting time for the Youth and Lashes team.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggle has been the rapid growth. We have been truly blessed.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me in the happiness of the clients. When my customers are proud to tell their friends and family about my company, it warms my heart.
