Today we’d like to introduce you to Mashaal Ali.
Mashaal, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had a passion for beauty and fashion since I was an early teen. Growing up with two older sisters, being a girly girl was literally in my genes. One of my goals in life is to do something that is out of the ordinary for myself. I am all about comfort, so I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone. I took at huge step, and I started blogging this year. It has been an eventful journey so far.
My love for makeup has grown in the past couple of years, and it is something I definitely can’t live without! I was obsessed with eyeshadow as a little girl, and I can proudly say that I am still obsessed with eyeshadow today. I am more about the natural simplistic looks, but obviously when it comes to big events those lashes and glitter will be on! On an everyday, a good eyeliner and lipstick is literally all I need. I want young girls to know that applying makeup is not to alter your appearance, but it should just be something that you enjoy about being a girl.
My take on fashion is always been about modesty. This way of dressing is not something that has been forced on me in anyway, it is just something that makes me who I am. People know me as the girl that never wears jeans, and it is because I actually don’t even own a pair of jeans! My closet is filled with a million leggings, literally. I always end up wearing maxi dresses, long blouses with leggings, or short dresses with leggings. This also opens up the door for opportunity for me. It’s so easy to get by with a pair of jeans and a cute shirt. But what if you didn’t have a pair of jeans? This concept allows me to get creative and create my own looks. Growing up it was so hard for me to shop at the common stores in the mall because everything either had a short length or a slit. Throughout the years I’ve learned to bypass these challenges. And now that I’ve learned I want to be a role model and teach other girls who are struggling with their own fashion identity that’s it’s easy to be stylish and trendy, and you don’t have to compromise your values when it comes to fashion.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a roller coaster. Some days I get lazy to write, some days I run out of ideas, and then some days I just lose motivation thinking that “maybe people aren’t even reading this.” All in all I love sharing this part of my life with everyone, because I get so many girls younger than me, my age, and even older than me that give me so much encouragement. I have a fear of talking to my viewers on my Instagram story. I am slowly working on that fear of mine, because I want to be able to share more of my life with you all. I believe that the only struggle is within yourself. We sometimes doubt ourselves when we don’t get an exceeded number of likes and comments, but it’s a growing process. Everything good takes time.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I run my Instagram account @mashaalali and I run a website. I update the Instagram account twice a week, and blog about once every other week. I share my ideas on beauty, fashion, and travel. I am known for my lipstick and leggings, because those are the two things I can’t live without! I am the most proud that I have continued with my journey this far, and I love it so far! I put my Pakistani flair into my post, because I feel that it makes my page unique. I believe that my culture and ideas to make fashion trends more relatable to me sets me apart from everyone else. I like to put my sense of fashion into the different trends out there, and make it something that reflects my personality. Just because its trendy doesn’t mean you have to give up your values. I stay true to this statement and hope that I can influence girls around me to do the same.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think that Dallas is the best city to start any venture! Of course, I am biased because I LOVE Dallas. There are so many chances here now for bloggers, it is so amazing! Of course, Los Angeles and New York are amazing places to collaborate with so many brands and get to go to so many events, but Dallas is also becoming a place with so much opportunity. The best thing about blogging in Dallas is the people I have met, and how welcoming other bloggers have been towards new bloggers starting out. I am still starting out, but if there is anything I would want to improve it would probably be having more beauty/fashion events in Dallas. I definitely recommend Dallas being a place to start, it is a lively city filled with connections!
