Today we’d like to introduce you to Mason Grimes.
Mason, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in McKinney, Tx. I am a drummer and have been playing drums in church since the age of 7. Being a drummer has always been in me from the time of birth. As a baby, I had a seizure in church and was prayed over at that moment and time and never had a seizure again. But my parents would continue to worry about me because while growing up they thought that I was still suffering from seizures, but in actuality, I was playing drums in my sleep. Since those days as a young kid, drums and music have taken me all over this country and some parts of the world!
My second love growing up was basketball; for a moment there my dream was to play ball in college and maybe even go further! Even though I had a first love of drums, I never thought that it would ever go anywhere beyond the four walls of the church, but I was always dreaming of traveling and going places, so I figured basketball would be the way I did it. So I played ball from 4th grade all the way through my 2nd year of college. In college, I felt that my career in basketball was slowly coming to an end. Nothing worked out for me, and I ended up only playing like two agames in college. One day I sat down with my coach at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), and he encouraged me to take a year off to catch up with some classes I had missed and ultimately think about my future in basketball. So literally the day after that meeting with my coach I had an audition set up for a traveling worship team from SAGU. I auditioned for the team and made it! At that point, God opened my eyes to a world I never knew there was!
Since then I’ve been able to travel all over the country playing music and leading worship for all types of people in all types of places! And now that I have left SAGU, I’m still living out my dreams and playing for Artists I never thought I’d ever play for and have been given several opportunities to record and be a part of some amazing projects!
Currently, I’m continuing my musical career by playing for local Artists; D and Chi, Danni and Kris and Elmont Band. I’ve also played with Artists such as Chris Laws, Joseph Sojurner(SOJO) out of Atlanta, Christian Recording Artist and American Idol runner up Phil Stacey, and Christian recording Artist Jimmy Needham and so much more! It’s been an amazing ride, and though so many things have been accomplished, there’s so much more left to do! I’m grateful to God for the opportunities he’s allowed me to have to live out a dream he’s placed in me since I was a literal baby! And all I want to do in my career is to Inspire people with my gift and encourage them with my story!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?

The thing I want others to be inspired by is that no matter what life throws at you, no matter what comes your way, whatever God has for is only for you! Love what you do! And be passionate about what you do! And encourage others through what you do! DON’T STOP DREAMING!!!
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I truly believe that the events of the world should affect what we as Artists put out. With all the craziness going on, our focus as artists and musicians should be to reunite with one another. I feel like some of the stuff going on in the world can divide us as a people and now isn’t the time for division but a time to come together and stand strong with each other and love one another, understanding that we all may not agree on the same thing, but that doesn’t have to keep us from loving each other and respecting each other as equal human beings.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can listen to my work on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play.
