Meet Master Jehyuk Lee of Korean Tiger Martial Arts in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Master Jehyuk Lee.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was a very active person when I was a child. So I played a lot of sports. Soccer, basketball, baseball, swimming, etc. So I started Taekwondo. Considering past days, Taekwondo was not a simple sport. Taekwondo changed all my life. I learned how to control myself compared to other sports. Through Taekwondo practice, I learned a lot about concentration, courtesy, confidence, cooperative power, self-control, and responsibility. Through such Taekwondo practice I felt myself becoming more and more mature.

I am currently a member of the Taekwondo Demonstration Team of Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters). I was in the taekwondo demonstration team and, have performed Taekwondo demonstration around 10 countries. I decided to come to the United States in 2011 to better inform and educate my Taekwondo training. I taught taekwondo at the Tigers Martial Arts Group in Katy, Texas for five years.

After that I decided to open my own Taekwondo School. It was my dream to open Taekwondo School. We gathered and prepared a lot of information to open the seal but, there were many Taekwondo schools wherever I went so, it was never easy to open Taekwondo dojo. During my preparation, a good suggestion came to me in other areas. So I decided to go to another area and moved from Katy, Texas to Fort Worth, Texas. In March 2017, I got my seal. There are now more students than in the beginning. I am so grateful for new people, students, parents, and families. It would not have been possible without the grace of God, from Korea to America, from Katy to Fort Worth and, to open a Taekwondo dojo. Thank you all and also thanks to God.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have had a lot of obstacles in my life.

The first one was a shoulder injury during Taekwondo demonstration. During the demonstration of 10 people jumping over obstacles and defeating the billboard, I fell into the floor and suffered from a big shoulder injury so, I had a shoulder operation. After that, I could not do Taekwondo training for more than 6 months. I waited for the day to undergo physical therapy after surgery and to train in Taekwondo again. It was a difficult time, but I was able to endure the day when Taekwondo will be again. The second is when my parents passed away, I really lost my world when I heard that my parents had passed. After that, I was only worried about how I could live in this world but I did not give up. I remembered all my hard work. I could not think of Taekwondo before but I regained my mind and started Taekwondo again. And I decided to come to America.

For me, coming to America alone is the biggest challenge in my life.

KOREAN TIGER MARTIAL ARTS – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We teach orthodox Taekwondo. Taekwondo is a Korean martial art we teach children the skills, but first tell the children what is mental about the sport. For example, concentration (pouring all the power around one place), respect (respect for others, personality, ideology, action), courtesy (Feelings of self), co-operation (working together), self-control (self-restraint), responsibility (a sense of duty(s)) whole mindedness and, so on.

Master Lee is a wonderful man and an amazing teacher. He teaches my 6th and 8th grade kids and they love him. This studio is a very positive one and they have created a family atmosphere where kids are welcomed, encouraged and they actively want the students to encourage each other in each practice. I would recommend this studio to anyone that wants to learn from the best to come to K-Tiger!
