Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Creason and Tom Ellis from ShiftKey.
Matt and Tom, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Our company, ShiftKey, officially launched in 2016. However, the idea came to us in 2012 after we saw the opportunity to bring in new technology within the healthcare staffing industry after running our own traditional staffing company.
We believed that we could improve the results our clients were seeing by introducing a system that could eliminate the tedious back and forth phone calls plus the high cost associated with traditional staffing firms. We set out to create an Uber-style platform to simply connect our clients directly with qualified healthcare professionals.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We had a lot of struggles with development for the first two years. The healthcare industry had virtually been the same since the 1980s, and although we knew our clients could benefit, we also knew that introducing our clients and healthcare professionals to this new concept would take some work.
Our initial struggle was determining if healthcare professionals would utilize the product. The second was ensuring all professionals maintained compliance with up to date credentials for every shift.
Once we were able to overcome these two initial struggles, we were excited to find out that our clients and nurses took to the platform faster than we expected and the demand quickly escalated.
High demand brought on a new challenge of streamlining the sign-up process. We brought in an expert in 2016 to take the platform to the next level and bring our development in house and create the ShiftKey onboarding website that would allow nurses to sign up without a recruiter online.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about ShiftKey – what should we know?
ShiftKey is a multi-faceted online platform that cuts out the tediousness of nurses contacting staffing agencies and directly connects them to top-tier healthcare facilities with open shifts to bid on.
We strive to connect qualified healthcare professionals with healthcare facilities by providing a technology that combats the national healthcare shortage. Our system helps facilities schedule, control and maintain compliance within their facility and ultimately improves patient care with a full schedule of nurses and professionals.
ShiftKey is currently available in ten states including Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, Indiana, Nevada, Colorado and Kansas with 3,500 qualified healthcare professionals on the platform and over 1,300,000 hours scheduled at healthcare facilities.
We recently expanded our Dallas office from 4,000 to 8,000 square feet and have over 11,000 professionals currently in the process of signing up. There is still work to do in order to bring the change necessary to beat the nationwide shortage, but we are hoping to expand in several new states this year.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The number of active healthcare professionals plus the number of hours scheduled on the platform is an excellent measure of our success because that shows how we have helped our clients find the staff they needed to keep their highly rated facility running with outstanding patient care.
