Meet Matt Ramsey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Ramsey.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Bass/music is one of those love at first note/touch things for me. I started messing around with my dad’s basses when I was around three. He caught on to me playing around here and there and one day decided to buy me a bass of my own. Dark candy apple red four string fender jazz bass.

One morning he was cutting his hair and of course, I saw The bass before I went to say good morning lol. He asked have you played the bass? I said no I haven’t…. in my mind I ended with “yet”. He says I want you to play it. Then goes on to say listen if you want to play I’ll support you till the end. If not it’s all good, we’ll move on to the next. The rest is kinda history still being written.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. That’s what I think Helps make it unique and my own story. Early there were small things like blood blisters and callus’ I would get from playing so much. Then moving to when I got a little older and then things kinda changed to not getting paid for gigs to dealing with people who aren’t good with other people. Lol, I went through a period where I almost wanted to give up on music. Like I mentioned before when you have a burning passion and love for something and you mix that with people who will walk over/through any everything just to make sure they are good and not the whole squad that can get old kinda quick. But because I love music so much I never gave up.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My business is me Matt Ramsey! I specialize in playing bass. Whether it be a studio session or a live show 9 times out of 10, I can handle whatever situation I get Called for. I’m always easy to work with and people love having me around for some reason Lol. I’m on time and I always know what it is I’m supposed to do before I get To where I need To be. And even if I’m walking into a situation blind I’m a good navigator to turning the light on. Being thrown in a fire I something That immune to some things that would scare other musicians off draw me nearer to it. (Shrugs lol)

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Ummm, it’s played a small part. I like To think more along the lines of Faith being a huge part of it. Taking leaps of faith in what I do Should be more common than what it is. Keeping my faith strong even when I didn’t has benefited me a bunch. Around the time where I wanted To give up on music is when I got the opportunity to play for Kirk Franklin, Tori Kelly, Erykah Badu and many others since.
