Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Medlock.
Matthew, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve had quite the journey! At a young age of 16, I was managing local talent ranging from hip-hop to country. My love for music and business is what initially sparked my interest. In the beginning, I was always on the business side of things management, bookings, consulting. Fast forward to today, running a full-service recording studio and production company we have our hands on it all. The business side all the way down to production and songwriting. In between I was DJ’ing, producing and recording small projects from my living room studio. I learned more about professional recording and production in my first year of opening Legacy than I did the prior 10 years. It’s been a fun ride!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When an entrepreneur sets goals high and reaches for their dream, it’s bound to have ups and downs. Some of that is real growing pains and some of it is the pressure we put on ourselves to succeed. Smooth roads only happen in fairy tales and in my case almost extinct in music the business. Everyone has a story but in my case, I’d say the struggle that hits home was the struggle to get people to believe or see the vision.

Legacy is a full-service recording studio and production company specializing in hip hop, pop, and R&B vocal recording. We’re known for having one of the most creative recording environments in Dallas as well as a very impressive client list. Including names like Post Malone, Play N Skillz, Mac Miller and more! We are most proud of the achievement of Gold and Platinum plaques for our participation in the recording of Post Malone debut album “Stoney”. Being a part of something so successful is what we work for, makes those 14hr days so worth it! There are a lot of great studios in the DFW but our unique vibe, skilled engineers and amazingly awesome neighborhood DEEP ELLUM really help set us apart.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our future plans include expanding our recording potential to make it more accessible for bands or bigger recordings. We also plan to expand our in-house production team of producers and songwriters.
