Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Brock.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Dan and I am the owner of Mattress by Appointment Carrollton. I have dreamed of owning my own business so when I saw this opportunity, I took it. The Carrollton location was started by a good friend of mine, and when he found his dream home in Keller, he sold me his location and he opened up another one closer to his house. I have a business plan I follow which includes low overhead costs which keep our prices low. One of them is only being open when we meet with people. I am also a CPA and knowing how payroll is a huge expense for businesses, I have eliminated this expense by not hiring employees to be at the shop, when there are no customers. That is why we meet by appointment only.
Because of my low prices, the business has done very well. It did not take long for my shop to be up and running, and very profitable.
Please tell us about Mattress by Appointment Carrollton.
We sell mattresses. We are not like any other retail store though. We are only open when we meet with people. Because of this we do not have employees to pay, we don’t run the air conditioning and lights all day which keeps our overhead costs low. As a result, we can pass on the savings to our customers where they will save 40-70% less than the big retail stores. Currently we sell mattresses, box springs, bed rails, mattress protectors and pillows. We are proud of the fact that we offer great customer service with no high-pressure sales at all. We have mattresses to fit almost every budget.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Some of my favorite childhood memories was going on vacation with my family. We went to Disneyland many times as a family, the beach, and also visiting family in California, Utah, and Oregon. I love spending time with my family. Mattress by Appointment Carrollton has given me the opportunity to spend more time with my family as I take one of my kids with me on deliveries. Yes, we deliver the mattresses as well. In most cases, same day delivery.
