Meet Maya Crockett of Grateful Yoga in Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Crockett.

Maya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I fell in love with yoga after 20 years of competing in swimming. Through the years, I have trained to become a Chinese Medical Practitioner/Licensed Acupuncturist. When I opened my acupuncture practice, it was also my dream to open up a yoga studio that can help people with their physical and emotional challenges.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Yoga has been around in the US for decades now but people still seem very wary about stepping into a studio because of the images they have about yoga or they have been to other studios where they could not keep up with the class. I knew that the right people would find us at the right time, but the first year was very slow and challenging for the business.

Grateful Yoga – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
All of our yoga classes are tailored towards beginners and intermediate students. We focus on foundations and injury prevention rather than doing some of the crazy and fancy looking poses. We have various types of classes but most popular classes are the slower ones like yin and restorative classes.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Client feedback and results tell me that we’re helping people. Our success is defined by the improved health and balance achieved by our clients. We just want to keep spreading the joy!

I am so glad I found Grateful Yoga! I began in July 2016 with no prior experience in yoga and was intimidated by it actually because I knew very little about it. Grateful made me feel welcome and comfortable from the very first visit and within three months my blood pressure was down to normal for the first time in a decade and I was able to stop the blood pressure medication I’d been on for five years! I was amazed at the benefits from just 2-3 classes/week. I’ve never felt this good! Thank you again for creating such and inviting place. I’m forever grateful.
