Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayra Nino.
Mayra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It has been a little over two years where my love for tacos grew! I remember one of my friends mentioned to me one day, why didn’t I open a social media account to share with others. An account where I could share with people where the best tacos spots were in Dallas. I thought it was a silly idea. I usually just shared and posted on my personal page and people would always ask where the location was and asked me if the tacos were good.
One day, I decided to take the chance and open the account to share my thoughts about taco spots around Dallas and it’s surroundings. I launched it for fun as a hobby. I didn’t share with any of my friends at first, I was afraid what people would think or say.
So, that is how MexDallas was born! I’ve tried so many delicious tacos and amazing margaritas! Creating this account was something new and exciting. This account has helped me grow and I’ve met amazing foodies around the area. People that share the same passion for tacos like me.
I have been given the opportunity to attend soft openings, and I also have been invited to go and taste the food at local restaurants.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, it hasn’t been all perfect.
I work a full-time job, trying to go to different taco places can be challenging while balancing my work schedule. I want to post what I like and what I know my followers would enjoy. I try to find the best tacos in Dallas. When I have the opportunity to go out and try them, I make sure to read reviews and see what the top picks are, so when I get to the restaurant I know what to pick and try out. Another thing that I’m working on is keeping my account updated and active. It is important to interact without my followers and to keep it updated to keep people intrigued and see growth on my account.
MexDallas – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
MexDallas is a food blog where you can find top taco places in Dallas. The main focus is exploring the best taco places in Dallas as well as margaritas.
Using the platform to share my love for tacos and support local restaurants/taquerias. I’m most proud of being able to share with others the best taco spots and being one of the few Hispanics that are food bloggers. What sets me apart from others is that being born in Mexico and grew up with a mom that cooks on a daily basis, you get used to authentic food.
When I go out and explore these taco spots, I know what flavor and ingredients to look for that really hits the spot of authenticity. It helps share with others about our culture and our food. Growing up here in the states has really helped me explore the variety of tacos offered here in the Dallas area: vegan tacos, fancy tacos, vegetarian and of course, the classic tacos.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment will have to be this getting interview my voyage Dallas, I jumped of excitement when I read the email. Especially knowing I do this as a hobby and now I get to share it with the world, something I’m passionate about. So thankful for the opportunity.
