Meet Mayura Kulkarni

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayura Kulkarni.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mayura. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In August of 2018, I decided to start a blog page on Instagram to document my journey as a nurse and through nurse practitioner school. I remember being a nursing student back in 2016 and experiencing “mean older nurses” in clinical who would never want to help or serve as a mentor. I knew from those moments that I wanted to be the nurse that students could come to with questions or for advice. I started to post more and more content with tips to succeed in nursing school and as a nurse, my experiences as a NICU nurse and what it was like being in NP school. I never expected it to grow to the amount that it has today with over 7000 followers! I had been working as a NICU nurse full-time while being in a graduate-level nursing program full-time as well and wanted to showcase my day to day experiences and advice for anyone who aspired to do the same.

Over the course of the last two years, I have received countless messages from aspiring, nursing students, and nurses thanking me for the tips and guidance I have shared with them. This inspired me to start my business in May of 2020 named after my Instagram page called “Nurse Mayura”. I am now coaching nursing students and nurses to help them succeed in their nursing career paths whether they need help on their applications to programs, interview coaching, advice on which programs to apply to or help finding their dream nursing job right out of nursing school. I have also created a comprehensive cheat sheet guide for nursing students to help supplement their studying while in nursing school. I love the impact that I have made from this page that I started in 2018. I can’t wait to continue to help and inspire more nurses! I will be graduating with my Master’s degree as a pediatric nurse practitioner next May. I would like to still teach, educate and inspire nursing students while I practice as a nurse practitioner.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With any amount of success comes challenges. I definitely faced challenges as a nursing student and as a new nurse that I truly believe were part of the process to starting my business. While I was in nursing school, I had to work with a rude nurse in the NICU. This one nurse made me feel like I could never be a good NICU nurse or even a good nurse in general. She demeaned me and made me feel like I was not capable of becoming a nurse. It was that one moment that I used that as a way to become a better nurse and not let someone else define what kind of nurse I could be. It was one of the moments in life that inspired me to start my blog and eventually to create this business. Not only am I saving patients now but I am also helping to encourage new nurses as well.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Nurse Mayura is what I call “your one stop source for all things nursing.” I provide services to help students in various aspects. My custom advising sessions are geared for any student or nurse who is looking for advice whether it be related to applying to programs or advice on organizing their schedule in classes. It is the most customized package where I talk to each client and help give them clarity on whatever they need. My pre-nursing package is for the pre-nursing student who is applying to nursing programs. I help them create a strong application for nursing school so that they can get accepted on their first try. The same goes for my graduate nursing package. I help nurses who are looking to get their Master’s degree in nursing by working on each component of their application with them so they submit the best application possible.

My interview coaching package is specifically to help students and nurses be well prepared for interview whether it is for a job or for a program they applied to. Finally, I also offer services to help new graduate nurses on their residency applications. It can be difficult and competitive to find a job as a new nurse and this service is specifically designed to help students find their dream nursing job! Aside from that, I also sell cheat sheet guides which are quick reference sheets for students to learn information fast in their classes. I started this company based on my own experiences as both a student and working nurse and that’s what sets me apart. I use my own experiences good and bad to help other nurses and students so they can succeed in their nursing career path.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’ll be graduating with my Master’s degree in nursing as a pediatric nurse practitioner in one year! I hope to work as a general pediatrician in primary care pediatrics once I am done with graduate school. Aside from that, my goal is to get my doctorate in nursing practice. I’m not sure when I will go back to get my doctorate but I don’t plan to for at least two years after I finish my Master’s. I would also like to continue to grow my business and blog to impact as many nurses and students as I can around the world.
