The Amy McKenzie Fine Art Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy McKenzie.

Please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always loved drawing and painting, but my Dad wouldn’t pay for me to major in art at The University of Texas. Thankfully, the Interior Design major had an art route, and I took several studio classes.

Upon graduation, I painted for my personal home and friends started asking me to paint for them! I quickly had 4 sons and art was my lifeline to sanity! It was so fulfilling to feel like I had accomplished something when mothering can feel like an endless stream of monotonous duties!

Currently, as an empty nester, I show in several places while working fulltime as a furniture showroom manager in the design district.

Has it been a smooth road?
For me, my art business has been sporadic. I’ve never wavered from my passion, but my sons’ activities always took priority, so there were dry seasons of producing art.

Whenever I would consider hanging up my paint brushes, though, the urge to paint was too strong to give it up completely! I found time after the kids would go to sleep or during naps to fulfill my creative visions.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Amy McKenzie Fine Art – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My art represents abstract concepts and emotions, mostly stemming from my faith in Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord.

Most of the titles of my work reflects attributes of God, such as “Divine Whimsy” and “Unspeakable Peace.” The soft neutrals with pops of brighter colors that characterize my work remind me of the soothing nature of God sprinkled with His serendipitous surprises. 🙂

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the people of Dallas, but I miss the natural beauty of my native Austin.
