Meet Mckenzie Best of Mckenzie’s Lens Photography in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mckenzie Best.

Mckenzie, please share your story with us.  How did you get where you are today?
My whole life has been spent documenting the lives of my friend’s and my family through photography.  In fact, all my past photographs are missing my face, because I was always the one behind the lens. My focus for many years was landscape photography because I am an avid traveler, adventurer and hiker.  Next, I fell in love with aviation photography as I got involved in a group called the CAF (Commemorative Air Force), they are a group that restores WW2 aircraft. However, about two years ago I fell in love with portrait photography, which required the study of light and posing.  So, as any good student would do, I began to study the masters.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life is not interesting without a few bumps, Right?!?!  However, these days I don’t see those bumps as struggles anymore.  Afterall, struggles and failures allow you a chance to learn and become better at your craft.  I began to see failures as steppingstones to success. Once your perspective changes, then and only then, will the struggles become merely roadblocks.

Please tell us about Mckenzie’s Lens Photography.
When I chose Mckenzie’s Lens as the name of my company, I wasn’t quite sure what my specialty would be or which direction I would go as a photographer. I just knew in my heart, I HAD to create beautiful photographs. After trying several different genres, I decided portraits and weddings were my favorites. There are a lot of great photographers out there, which gives people a lot of choices. I believe greatness lies not only in talent but also in the passion to serve others and the desire to go above and beyond to help create an undeniably out of this world experience for the client… But also to provide a fabulous product that will be enjoyed for generations.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could go back in time and start over, I would learn more about the business side of owning a photography service.  As artists, we just want to create, however, being in business is much more than just creating a product or providing a service. I must remind myself that there is always marketing to do, emails to write and invoices to generate.  And finally, I would like to thank my friend Heidi McBain for suggesting Mckenzie’s Lens for this interview!!!
