Meet Meagan Hobbs of Frosted by Meagan in Edmond

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Hobbs.

Meagan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been passionate about baking. As a little girl I’d watch cooking shows and beg my mom to buy me the ingredients to recreate whatever they whipped up on the episode. Fast forward to my late teens, I found out I have Endometriosis. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a disease that causes chronic pain and can cause infertility. I graduated college with a business degree but due to my “bad days” as I call them, it’s hard to have a regular 9-5 job. That’s when I decided to try my hand at decorated cookies! I binge watched YouTube tutorials for a month straight & finally gathered up the courage to attempt my first batch in January 2018. (I’m a perfectionist so A LOT of planning went into this initial attempt). Surprisingly, they looked pretty good! I sold my first cookie sets for Valentine’s Day 2018 & it really just took off from there!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had the best support from friends and family spreading the word so it has been smooth sailing as far as the business side of things goes. I’m currently facing my biggest struggle right now. I experienced a miscarriage on Christmas Day 2019. I am blessed enough to be booked months in advance but the negative side of that is finding a balance between work and my personal life. For example, baby shower sets are so hard for me to create right now because of the mental block my grief is creating. The “cookie community” as I call it, has been nothing short of amazing. The amount of love and support I have received during this difficult time has blown me away. I truly believe that I’ve been given a platform to show the good and bad. I really hope I can show that it’s okay to not always have it all together on Instagram. We’re real people with real stories and that’s not always pretty.

Please tell us about Frosted by Meagan.
I make decorated sugar cookies using Royal icing! It’s so funny because I can’t personally see my own aesthetic. I’ve been told my style is classy & minimalistic, which makes sense because that’s also my design aesthetic for home decor. I pull inspiration for the sets I design from invites, decor, color palettes, etc. I take whatever my clients can give me to fully understand the vibe of their event and then custom design a set of cookies around that theme. I think my overall attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond is what gets my work noticed. I would much rather create a set I’m proud of, than limit myself creatively to stay within certain boundaries. I’m most proud of the heart within my company. I really try to lead with light and kindness and I think it shows in my work. When you receive cookies from me, you can tell that they are packed with passion & love. I get to have a tiny part in these life changing events for people like weddings and baby showers and I think that’s amazing.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As a child, some of my favorite memories took place on the road! I come from a family that travels a lot and just spending that time together discovering new places with everyone that I love most, it was magical. That’s another major reason I love what I do. My husband and I are both self-employed which allows us the freedom
to set our own schedules and travel when we want to. One day, when we have kids, I’m hoping to be able to share with them some of my favorite places around the world.
