Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan and Duane Mainville and Amy and Dale Flint.
Please kick things off for us – where does this story begin?
Duane and Meagan started The Pizza Buffet after owning an advertising franchise for 15 years. We wanted to get away from the “corporate” side of things and create our own future. We met in the restaurant industry and fell in the love with the buffet concept so we decided to put the two together and created The Pizza Buffet! Not being an easy idea and realizing our dreams were bigger than just the two of us we brought on Dale and Amy to improve our weaknesses and enhance our ideas and goals into something we all love!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No way! Starting any business is hard and I think a restaurant is even that much harder! There are just so many aspects and knobs to turn to make it successful that it really takes a village! Money will always be a struggle. every time you turn around it is either a payroll, broken something or other or food order swiping your debit card!
Besides money though I think it’s the personal desire to please everyone and make sure everyone is enjoying the place that you put your heart & soul into.
Working with your spouse and best friends can be tough at times too but we really do make an amazing team! We’ve learnt that our opinions are professional and not personal and we really do make our decisions based on what’s best for TPB!
Our kids have been amazing! This first year has taken a toll on them but they are old enough to understand this isn’t forever but we are creating our forever.
The Pizza Buffet – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Pizza Buffet has built relationships with schools, churches and the local community. That is what we are most proud of. We reward our teachers, schools, coach volunteers, 1st responders, etc every day! And that has created a connection that I hope will last for years!
Yes, there are Pizza buffets all over but we created one for families! Not just a place for kids and cheap pizza. But a place where adults can enjoy each other, have a beer or glass of wine, while enjoying an amazing salad from our HUGE salad bar or endless options of pizza. All while their kids have their choice of pizza, drinking craft sodas (that is secretly better for them than the typical soda) with as much ice cream and S’mores that they want to eat! Maybe even playing a game or two too 😉
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
As I have mentioned before our relationships with the local community is what makes us successful. You cannot survive without a solid core group of people and these guys keep coming back! You have to give to receive and it feels so good to see both. Once we started meeting our regulars we knew we had something.
