Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Ortiz.
Meagan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Where do I begin? With a push to take a leap of faith and “just do it “ from my best friend and spiritual mom.
I began working in the social work field in Connecticut before pursuing my passion. I was always told a hairstylist had no stability or opportunities, so I took a detour. I lived on my own at a young age, so enrolling in school meant working full time into the night and even until the next class sometimes.
I grew up middle class with a mother who worked from morning to night and would still come home to cook a full course meal. She is the strongest Italian woman besides my grandmother I’ve ever known. Oh yes, I am Italian and Puerto Rican. That should explain some things about me. “Haha.”
After training in some of the most elite salons in NYC/Connecticut, I made my move to Fort Worth. I felt the lord was moving me to make a leap of faith.
So, with God and faith, things moved and doors opened. I am now 1.5 years in Texas surpassing all goals. I am now a girl boss, owner of my own small business which is something I never thought was possible. You can find me “on location” pursuing my bridal career, or at the salon slaying sleek cuts. My story is just beginning. I am ready to take over Fort Worth, or whatever the Lord has me too.
Has it been a smooth road?
I definitely have had struggles. I left a fully booked job to having not 1 client. I also had to leave family, friends and a life I created. I was told by so many I was crazy for moving and was making a mistake starting completely over. I had made a name for myself. The week I was giving my two weeks notice, I received an offer to become an educator for an elite brand. So yes, this has not been an easy road, but I had to be obedient.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Meaganranee & Co is about being sure of yourself. Knowing who you are and owning it.
I am a two part company. Bridal and salon services.
I specialize in bridal updos and airbrush makeup. I travel to do work “on site” and have the ability to provide services at my studio as well.
In the salon, you will find me doing brunette lightning, extensions, and precision cuts.
I am a published artist for bridal and editorial magazines such as Modern Salon, Vogue Italia online and more.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I believe Fort Worth even Dallas has so much to offer. If you market and network yourself the right way. If you have the will power and work ethic, you can do it!
