Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Brooks.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Megan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to have my own business and be creative. I studied painting and drawing at Southern Methodist University for undergrad and then completed a Masters of Fine Arts degree in fibers at the University of North Texas. Initially, I learned all the ways to make fabrics and I continue to incorporate fiber techniques throughout my work today. As an artist and fabric designer, I am inspired by so many things. Patterns, textures and colors are constantly influencing my work. I find the most joy in the process of creating. I have ultimate faith in the process – nothing is happenstance, but rather I believe that my intuition comes from a higher power.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As an artist, the business side has been the hardest part. Also, I have had to learn to say no to things along the way. By saying no, I am saying yes to something that’s more important, like my family.
We’d love to hear more about your art.
I think what sets me apart from other artists is my process and materials, which is painting on silk and silkscreens. While I approach my art and design work very differently, they both indirectly influence each other. Currently, I sell my original artwork and pillows through BluePrint. While fulfilling my passion for creating, being able to support charities and donate to local auctions motivate me daily. My hope is that customers enjoy my products just as much as I loved creating them.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is being able to do what I love, being creative.
