Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan de Farcy.
Hi Megan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I studied film and theater in college, working in restaurants to pay my bills. After working a few years in Hollywood. I decided it was time to make the jump and take time away from the busy work life to find time to write. I returned to restaurants, giving myself a lot more time and flexibility for writing. An opportunity for catering arose, and just like that, I started working weddings. It quickly became apparent how similar the wedding and Hollywood worlds are – there’s a cast, crew, budget, timeline… but for a much happier reason! I found a balance in creativity and logistics, along with feeding my love for working with people and finding ways to create joy.
I immersed myself in the wedding industry, wearing many hats over the last nine years. I was fortunate enough to work for a few of the most attentive and innovative companies prior to starting my own brand. I gained experience (and a few failures) whilst working alongside some truly inspiring entrepreneurs. They supported me in pushing the limits of what had been done before, empowering me to find new ways to serve clients and creating new experiences for their guests.
A proud member of Professional Wedding Guild Fort Worth, I have in-depth experience in catering, venue management, florals, and design, allowing me to best guide clients during their planning journey while committing to a higher standard of excellence, service, and quality. I don’t shy away from a bold, colorful palette, outlandish menu, or underground music entertainment – all celebrations are unique, and I love embracing what brings out the best in each couple.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Five letters – C O V I D. I wouldn’t have it any other way, to be honest. It gave me the push I needed to go out on my own. Many of us wedding vendors are finding our calendars fill up differently now than they used to. We used to have “seasons” for things, including engagements/bookings – often we would know by February how our year would shake out. Post-Covid, I have found a lot of couples have shortened their planning timeline. I think it is a blessing. I no longer have so much committed 12-18 months out. I can live more presently now. I have helped plan quite a few weddings in less than half the time I used to, and I have found it to be so much fun. I still love the relationships that I get to develop with those who choose a longer engagement, but there’s a new magic to the shorter term.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I offer wedding planning and coordination. Having experience in other areas of the industry allows me to put myself in those vendors’ shoes and better guide my clients into what is a realistic expectation. I value vendor relationships just as much as client relationships. I pride myself in my genuine demeanor. I will let a client know if I don’t feel I am the right fit, and I will always level with a vendor if there’s an issue that needs to be addressed and resolved. There are no do-overs with weddings – I treat every event like the live performance that it is. We adapt on the fly, and we keep the focus where it should be.
When all is said and done, the goal is to help couples start this great new chapter. There always comes a time when I have to say to my clients, “remember why we are doing this – you are gaining a partner for life.” All of our hard work is meaningless without the big “I do.” Their florals, hors d’oeuvres, linens, and all other beautiful details don’t mean much if their vows aren’t exchanged… it’s just a really cool party!
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
Being a member of Professional Wedding Guild Fort Worth has been wonderful. I have reconnected with so many vendors, as well as formed new quality relationships. I have found inspiration in a few books, including: Radical Candor by Kim Scott, Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg, and Marketing Made Simple by Donald Miller. I’m also part of a book club, which forces me to read something I may not have chosen on my own. I always look forward to the discussions (and laughter) while being accompanied by some of the smartest, best women I have met. Goal Digger with Jenna Kutcher and Boss Girl Creative with Taylor Bradford are great resources for me. I enjoy listening to Smartless with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes. Sometimes I need a break and a good laugh while listening to someone else’s career path and story.
I like to find inspiration in places not everyone looks, such as Food and Wine and estate sales. I have shaped an entire tablescape off of one salad plate.
