Meet Megan Karr and Lauren Hensarling of Bright Lights Theatre in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Karr and Lauren Hensarling.

Bright Lights Theatre began when our Co-Founders, Lauren Hensarling and Megan Karr met at Dallas Theological Seminary in 2017. They quickly became friends and realized their mutual love for theatre and their similar calling to walk alongside families as they train up the next generation to be followers of Jesus Christ. Thus, a lifelong dream of Lauren’s and a passion of Megan’s became Bright Lights Theatre in the Spring of 2019. This educational platform would not be possible without the incredible Board of Directors that have poured into Bright Lights. God has been so good to have directed Bright Light’s steps along the way and we are trusting in God as we aim to glorify His name by training the next generation as masterful storytellers to bring the light of Christ to a dark and broken industry.

Has it been a smooth road?
Well, with any new company things can get challenging. Neither one of us (Megan or Lauren), have a background in business, so we relied heavily on the advice of trusted friends as we stumbled our way through the legal process of starting a non-profit. Also, Bright Lights was affected by the Dallas Tornado on Oct. 20, 2019 as the church that intended to host us was destroyed by this tornado. Ever since it has been a challenge to find a space to host our upcoming camps and classes. We know that this company will only succeed if our decisions are sovereignly directed and blessed by God, so we are trusting in His timing and His bigger plan for space. We are continually encouraged by the support we have experienced from families in the formation process. We love these families and cannot wait to serve them this coming summer.

Please tell us about your business.
Bright Lights Theatre exists to train the next generation as masterful storytellers to bring the light of Christ to a dark and broken industry (the world of theatrical arts). To accomplish this
– We value theatrical training that empowers masterful storytelling.
– We value theological training that proclaims the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
– We value the integration of theatrical and theological training that makes disciples through Christlike love in a dark and broken industry.

At Bright Lights Theatre, we offer training platforms for kindergarten-12th grade students, including summer camps, semester-long classes, productions, and workshops/masterclasses. Also, we long to come alongside parents as they raise their children in this broken world, particularly when it comes to issues concerning the world of theatre. We have resources that serve this goal, such as our original blog and podcast, because we believe parents and guardians are the primary leaders of their children’s spiritual formation. Here at Bright Lights, we have a passion for quality teaching of the theatrical arts that integrates an application of God’s Word. We love our students and can’t wait to see how God uses them in the theatre world and beyond.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love the acceptance and support of the arts, but we are not as fond of the busy pace of life.
