Meet Megan Rees of Peace of Mind Body and Soul in Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Rees.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Megan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got into the skincare field because I grew up with horrible Eczema. It was EVERYWHERE and so embarrassing. I tried every single cream or foam doctors prescribed but nothing really worked and what did was so painful. The pain wasn’t really worth the short term effects so I started dabbling in natural remedies. I fell in love with holistic ways and that’s when I found Aveda. I knew that if I wanted to be a success I had to start at the bottom and build my career with a growing clientele. So, I found a job that would allow me to see as many clients as possible, waxing. I started my career with no clientele at European Wax Center but I was given the opportunity to develop relationships with so many people that short shifts and days off were a thing of the past for me. I honestly believe that by focusing on my client’s needs and not selling them on every little thing they did not need, I built a better bond with them and because I chose to put my clients first, they did the same for me and would follow me anywhere now. After 5 years of working for someone else I had a huge life change and needed to take a leap of faith for my career. That is when I opened Peace of Mind. At first, I was terrified! I was stumbling in the dark and learning every lesson the hard way. After a few months I realized that a lot of business is who you know. And what you love, so I began making connections and many friends along the way. Now I have an amazing team behind me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not smooth sailing to begin with, lol. I was spending just as much time checking and double checking inventory, client accounts, and dealing with all the numbers as I did actually doing the part of the job that I love. I hated the fact that my passion was being wasted because as my company grew so did the mound of background work. I LOVE what I do though and when I realized I just needed more hands on time again, I started networking and realized that it’s not only okay but it is encouraged to ask for help. Someone to deal with my taxes here, another to help build my online presence. Every stumble was worth it in the end. I am only in my second year and the opportunities are endless. Big, better things to come!

Peace of Mind Body & Soul – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Peace of Mind Body & Soul will always be known for my waxing techniques. Over the years I have learned from some of the best estheticians, teachers, and companies. Even after my years at Euro, 6 years of conventions and continuing education classes I still can’t get enough! Every year the scientific knowledge behind the physiology of what makes us is changing, and I think that is miraculous. I can’t say I will ever stop going to school and furthering my education. Once both of my kiddos are in school I would love to focus part-time on an organic chemistry degree so that I can create my own skincare line one day.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
That’s a tie.
1) The day I could go from having three jobs to one and spending 5 hours a day with my children instead of two.
2) Realizing I had turned a profit my first full year in business.
