Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Upchurch.
Megan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been a sun baby for as long as I can remember. I have tanned indoors since I was sixteen years old and in the sun for even longer. A tan has always been my favorite accessory for all occasions and outfits. I always loved how great my skin looked and the confidence it would leave me with. It is not uncommon to feel good when you look good and that is exactly why I went into this industry. I found a way to not only do something I love but leave others with a little more confidence and feeling beautiful as well.
I started working in tanning salons where I became obsessed with finding out about all of the developments in the skin care, equipment, and especially spray tans. Airbrush tanning in particular. From there I got certified in airbrush tanning and started a mobile airbrush tanning business called Me2U Tan. In my free time, I would go to people’s homes and airbrush them. I immediately fell in love with it and the gratitude I would receive from freshly tanned clients. I now hold two certifications in airbrush tanning alone and one of the most sophisticated airbrush set ups I have ever seen in my salon.
Then came my biggest blessing of all when the owners of the salon I was working at had decided to sell it. That is when this amazing brick and mortar salon got a new name and my mobile business a new permanent home. My path to here was very blessed and I feel that every turn that led me down this road was meant to bring me exactly where I am. I have had angels on my team for sure.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the largest struggles that we have had over the past year has definitely been the re-branding of the salon. The salon itself had been open for almost a decade under a different name and had very loyal members from an old owner that has since passed away. We came in with a completely different vision than what the salon had been over these years and involved a major remodel which I am sure did not exactly soothe those fears. Having a vision so different from what these members were used to was an uphill feat at first. I know change is hard for almost everyone. Especially when something people already love changes then most people fear that they won’t like it afterwards. Fear of losing whatever it is that draws them there.
So we had to prove those fears to be pointless and re-convince these people to love us too. I took a lot of dedication and hard work but we did prevail. I feel like we have since eased those fears and earned the love of all of the older and newer members now that we are almost a year in now. It is a huge relief to see the positive reaction to our new vision for the salon.
Me2U Tan – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Me2U Tan is a new tanning salon in north Dallas that offers all high-end equipment compiled under one roof matched with the personality and personal touches of a family owned business. As it is family owned. You get to truly enjoy the best of all worlds.
Thought was poured into every detail in the re-creation of the salon. A unique vision of what a tanning salon should be was brought to life. An amazing team of employees and an employee turned owner banned together with new ideas meant to raise the standard of what you should expect from a tanning salon. Or any business really.
Our salon is beautifully decorated with a shabby chic Mediterranean feel that ties into our vintage and vogue boutique. Our boutique is filled with many unique and diverse items ranging from clothing, candles, soap, and jewelry. Our UV sun beds are the best in their class and featuring levels on through five and even has three different level five beds to choose from. Accompanied by true red light therapy beds, an ozonated body cocoon, a mystic spray booth, and our specialty, custom airbrush tanning. Having started as a mobile airbrush tanning company our airbrush tanning is one of the key features and focuses in the salon. The salon has been and continues to be a trusted destination to get a custom airbrush tan. We have kicked up the standard in airbrush tanning services with extras like before and after treatments and even sparkle all included with a session.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as delivering more than what is expected of me. Exceeding everyday expectations and limits by putting your heart, mind, and soul into every detail and making a vision reality. So many people seem to be so consumed with doing their required work or what’s asked of them, but when you go beyond that you really see a whole new scale of things. I believe it is the above and beyond that will set you apart and elevate you in your life.
