Meet Meika Zack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meika Zack.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Meika. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I was always creative, my mom claims if you gave me scissors, paper, and glue I would entertain myself for hours. I fell in love with graphic design in elementary school. We had to do research projects and present them to the class through PowerPoint. I got really into the design aspect of my projects, to be honest, I spent way more time on the design of the presentation than the actual research part. I didn’t always get the best grade, but my presentation was always the best.

In high school, I took a graphic design class and designing became my main hobby. Doing design as a hobby soon turned in to doing favors for friends and family. I dreamed of being a graphic designer but was encouraged by many to seek a degree in business because it would be easier to find a job. My first semester at college I took all business classes and one graphic design class just for fun. I didn’t enjoy my other classes and excelled in my design class.

At the end of the semester, I changed my major and never looked back. After graduating from college, I worked in small design shops while running my freelance business on the side. Eventually, I worked my way up to running a full-time business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a business is never easy. There were so many times when I was overwhelmed and wanted to quit. For two years I worked full time while starting my business. I did most of my work at night when I got home or on the weekends. In the beginning, there were many nights where I only got a couple hours of sleep.

I never said no to clients so there were a few times when I took on projects bigger than I could handle. I had to work very hard to stand out and grow my business through referrals. Eventually, I had enough of a steady freelance income to switch to part-time and about a year after I switched to part-time I left my job to be a full-time freelancer. Looking back now, I still am not sure how I got to where I am today.

Recently, things have been a bit crazier as I Just had my first child, a little girl that is four months old. Trying to balance work while raising a baby has definitely made things more difficult. However, it is so rewarding to be able to work at home with her. I wake up every morning and make money doing what I love. I wouldn’t want it any other way, and I couldn’t ask for a better job.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a graphic designer. I specialize in logos, branding, and custom illustration. I can pretty much design anything, and I’m always up for a challenge. I love that I get to work with all different kinds of businesses. I think it’s one of the greatest aspects of my job. I am always designing something new.

I feel like my passion, creativity, and attention to detail sets me apart from other designers. I’m really dedicated to my work. When I’m working on a project, I treat each business with as much dedication as if it were my business.

My goal is always to create something even better than what my client imagined. It is the most rewarding feeling to bring people’s dream designs to life.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have a bunch of dreams for the future of my business, for now, I plan to continue empowering my clients to put forth their best selves and grow my client base with new and exciting companies.

Someday in the future, I hope to create a popular design blog possibly even a creative DIY lifestyle blog, and I would also like to write and illustrate a children’s book. I also hope to design an iconic branding for a fortune 500 company someday.
