Meet Melissa and Mark Page of ZYN22

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa & Mark Page.

Mark, a graduate of Baylor University and father of four, left a lucrative investment career just a few years ago to form ZYN22. He saw the potential of the booming boutique fitness industry and knew there would be demand for something different in the Dallas-Fort Worth market.

Passionate, enthusiastic instructors are the heart and soul of ZYN22, and Mel Page is no exception. In addition to being affectionately named ZYN22’s ZYNkerbelle, Mel plays an important role in the company’s marketing strategy. When she’s not kicking a class into high gear at ZYN22, she directs the award-winning drill team at Southlake Carroll High School. The Texas State University alumnus brings her love of dance and choreography to her fast-paced classes at ZYN22 to help transform bodies and minds.

“Every ZYN22 class is demanding physically, but it’s also an opportunity to restore your inner peace and reset your intentions,” said Mel Page, co-founder & instructor, ZYN22. “We’re not just another spin class, and everyone who clicks into a bike with us leaves feeling stronger than when they arrived.”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Securing prime real estate for future ZYN22 locations is our biggest challenge as our brand grows. Boutique fitness is a hot market, and we find ourselves competing against larger franchised gyms for top spots when landlords might be more likely to choose a national name. With any business, finding and developing good leaders can be challenging, too. This seems to be a millennial issue, and we have to find the outliers in that generation who want to work hard with a purpose and lead. We currently have 120 employees so we have the usual HR challenges associated with a staff that large and making sure each of them feels fulfilled in his or her position.

Please tell us about ZYN22.
ZYN22, is a premier fitness brand with boutique cycling studios designed to reboot mind, body and spirit with a different take on traditional cycling classes. The company was founded in January 2015 on the idea that in 22 days, everything can change. Cycling cohorts quickly grabbed a seat under ‘The Dome’ for the ride of their lives and have been hooked ever since. ZYN22 has since expanded to include studios throughout the DFW metroplex, including Ft. Worth, Dallas Park Lane, Southlake, and Uptown.

ZYN22’s latest location in Uptown is one-of-a-kind, offering the cycle classes that people crave and a new exclusive to this location: Barre22, an energizing, full-body, dance-based workout that sheds calories and leaves you feeling lean and toned. Uptown has two state-of-the-art studios: one for cycling and one for barre. ZYNers have come to love the stadium seating in ‘The Dome’ where everyone feels like a VIP, and the new Uptown location has added a layer to this experience with bikes that have the latest cutting edge technology providing each rider with bike power metrics including average RPM, distance and calories.

The things that make ZYN22 different from other cycling studios are the things that keep fans coming back. Co-founders Melissa and Mark Page and Denis Morton designed the studios to bring something unexpected to indoor cycling. ZYN22’s premium classes, developed by Denis, combine cardio and weight training to create 45-minute, high-energy classes that feature dancing, upbeat music and inspiration from energetic instructors.

We set out to create an environment and attract a staff that make every ZYN22 class as fun as it is challenging. Our clients – affectionately called ZYNers – are looking for more from their workouts, and every heart-pounding ride under The Dome helps strengthen riders from the inside out.
– Mark Page, Chairman, ZYN22

Regardless of fitness level, ZYN22 classes are designed to meet clients wherever they are on their fitness journey. Each class includes guided instruction to encourage beginners and challenge experts to push their limits – all while having a great time and burning calories.

In addition to providing exhilarating sweat therapy, ZYN22 studios feature premium athleisure gear and accessories. Riders can also take advantage of luxuriously appointed locker rooms. The first ride is always free, and subsequent classes can be purchased individually or in packages. Bike reservations can be made online every Sunday at 6 pm for the following week, and complimentary bike shoes and towels are included with each class.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Mark Page: Most of my childhood memories revolve around sports because that seemed to be what my world revolved around as a child. One of my fondest memories was from 6th grade when my dad coached my pee-wee football team, the Fannin Mustangs in Midland. We were one of the worst teams in the league with a losing record for two-years running, but my dad, who was a QB at Oklahoma University, moved me to QB and we ran an offense that he ran in college that was very advanced for us. We beat every team that year, basically running up and down the field on everyone, and won the City Championship. More than 30 years later at our high school reunion, someone bought up our 6th grade football team and how it was one of the most fun times he had as a child. It was funny that all these old guys looked back on that one season with the same fond memories.

Melissa Page: Some of my favorite memories from my childhood were singing while my grandmother played the piano. Thanksgiving was always particularly special because my entire family would join in to sing “Bless This House” before our meal. My grandmother is no longer with us, but we still stand side-by-side and sing that same song each Thanksgiving. This simple family tradition symbolizes the love and commitment we have for one another. Family and tradition are very important to me and have played a large part of who I am today.

Denis Morton: I have special memories from my childhood specific to my mom and dad. My dad passed on his love for the sea to me and taught me how to body surf literally on his back. I vividly remember learning with my arms wrapped around his neck as we caught waves. Much of my childhood, and some of my best memories, was spent riding my bike. When I started Kindergarten, my mom rode next to me every single day on the way to school for six months. Those days made me feel confident about my route and riding skills and gave me the push I needed to take that same route on my own through 8th grade!
