Today we’d like to introduce you to Mello Joseph.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My photography journey started when I got a Panasonic G7, as a gift to myself for graduating college from Stephen F. Austin State University. Shortly after, I was in a position where I was not able to find a full-time job. With all the free time I had, I quickly invested my time in Youtube videos to educate myself on how to work a camera, and how to edit. Manny Ortiz, Peter Mckinnon, and Brandon Cole became my favorite Youtuber’s and I was able to quickly learn through them.
After I developed a passion for photography, I knew I was very limited with the camera I had and didn’t like the picture I was getting, so I invested in a Sony full frame mirrorless camera. Even though I had the equipment, it was hard at first making a photography page on Instagram. I knew by just starting out, I wasn’t the best, so I was hesitant on posting pictures of other people because I didn’t know what people might think. That fear quickly went out the window when I realized that nobody starts off great, everybody has to start somewhere.
I officially started really getting into photography in the Summer of 2018, that is when I made Shot By Mello. During this summer, I learned two things, I have a passion for photography and it’s hard to shoot outdoors in Texas heat. I started off by offering free shots to my friends and family to build my portfolio and add to my Instagram page. It was easy for me to find subjects and models, because I didn’t charge at first, and people love to have their pictures taken. Since then, I have shot in a lot of areas in photography including portraits, weddings, events, real estate, concerts, and products. The sky is the limit and there are many things that can be done in photography, so I don’t limit myself to only one specific form of photography.
To help give back to upcoming photographers, I started a group called Dallas Creative Group, where I assist and help out beginner photographers and help them get to the next level of success. It is important for me to do this because although I am fairly still new to photography when I first starting out it was difficult connecting to photographers who have been in the industry for a while, so I know a lot of new photographers have this problem. In January, I hosted my first creative meetup in Downtown Dallas and had over 30 creatives of both photographers and models in attendance to learn and create dope content.
I’m excited to see where my photography career will take me in the upcoming years and the places and people I will meet throughout my journey. You can check out my work on my website at Shotbymello.com or my Instagram or Facebook at Shot By Mello.
Has it been a smooth road?
It was challenging finding other photographers to connect with when I first started out in photography.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a Dallas based photographer that specializes in portrait photography and events. I am best known for my edits and my levitation pictures, that have gone viral multiple times on Instagram. One thing that sets Shot By Mello apart is that I provide high-quality pictures and service at affordable prices.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is a great market for photographers, the sky is the limit. There are many artists, models, businesses, and events that want and need a good photographer to work with on a daily basis. Not to mention that hundreds of people move to the DFW metroplex every day, Dallas is a great market to start a photography journey.

I’m very proud of you, Mello!
I’m not sure 🤔 if we already have a photographer, for our 2019 IOTA Annual Business Luncheon, scheduled Saturday, April 20, 2019.
I sung under the directions of your Father, Clark Joseph, at the Meyerson Symphony in February 2019.

Hi Mello Joseph!
My name is Lolita Lopez Lemelle. I graduated from NHS with your father, Clark. He and I were very good friends and it is so wonderful to see his son’s achievements on here. Your pictures are awesome. I especially liked the one of the little boy and his reflection in the building with the mirror walls. My son lives in Dallas. I will forward or tag you to him in case he ever needs a photographer. Just like your dad, I see greatness and generosity in that you are willing to share your knowledge and talent with aspiring photographers. It is so rewarding to give. May God bless you with triple or more.
