Today we’d like to introduce you to Mely Quan.
Mely, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far
My name is Mely Quan and I am a technology executive, an actor, a writer, a friend, and a confidant, among other things. I have two degrees in the technology space and when not releasing enterprise software products for users I moonlight as an actor! Relationships drive me and that is what draws me to my current career and to my love for films. Not only do I love to find out about how people feel and think when they go through certain experiences but I also love to put smiles on their faces. I love to express myself through my work in both areas. Most recently, I wrote a novel called “Petal,” and it has been successful in its release. I try to find creative outlets to keep the juices flowing. There are many ways to really connect with people and film and writing are a couple of them that bring me joy.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. There is a lot to juggle. At one point, I was working, going to school, writing, taking care of family, and filming. It’s a balancing act that takes a lot of discipline and the need to use your time efficiently. I listen to a lot of motivational videos and ET has a line that has always stuck with me, “I don’t sleep when I’m tired, I sleep when I’m done.” This one line has motivated me to push through the tough times, sleepless nights, and all other chaos on the road to achieving my goals. The key is to keep going and not to worry so much about how. Just focus on your why.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am most proud of the work I do in the technology field. I specialize in connecting with users and building products that are successful in the market. Women in tech have been more than a movement and encouraged young girls to aspire to be technology leaders. I am most proud of my contributions to my company but also to my family and friends. Writing a novel has been my latest accomplishment and one that has set me apart by giving me the official title of a published author.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I would love to open up my time to being a mentor and speaker for those who want to learn more about how technology serves us. Likewise, I would love to continue my career in film. In a perfect world, I’d be starring in my own Sci-fi Netflix series!
