Meet Merry Frampton of Verry Merry Designs in Royse City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Merry Frampton.

Merry, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a love of art, crafting and creating. Even as a young child I loved to draw and create. And up through my adulthood, I have always crafted home décor, homecoming mums, yard décor….you name it, I’ve done it. In the past decade that leaned more toward sewing and quilting but because of a full-time corporate job, it was hard to always find time to do the things I loved. Last year I quit my fulltime corporate job and decided to pursue something more fulfilling as a woman, a mom, a Mimi and a Christian. I am blessed enough to have a husband that has supported me 100% in my decision too. I decided to start a Direct-to-garment t-shirt printing business that gave me the opportunity to put my own creative energy to use and that would allow me to decide what products or designs I wanted to create. It hasn’t been easy. There has definitely been a learning curve to the process of business ownership. I have also had to teach myself how to design through Adobe Illustrator. I’ve always prided myself on being a quick learner but there is a lot to design software and it’s not easy.

I totally respect people who go through college to earn degrees in design. At 48 I didn’t feel I had that kind of time so youtube has been my best friend…Lol! I know I’m nowhere near their level of intelligence on designing but I’ve learned enough to do the types of designs that I needed to make t-shirt designs that are marketable. In less than a year I have gone from a simple idea to now selling in two Boutiques, having regular online & social media orders, as well as setting up at multiple craft fairs including a permanent booth(s) at Canton First Monday Trade Days. Word of mouth has been a huge part of my businesses success. I have gotten jobs from not only individuals but from many churches, small companies, surgery centers, and schools. When you create quality work and sell it at a fair price people share their experience with friends and family. My heart is to share Jesus with the world and if I can do that with t-shirts either in the design or in the love I put into my product & customers, then I have created something beautiful. My dream is to eventually open a small storefront but that is still a little way down the road. Right now I’m enjoying the journey I have been blessed with and the relationships I am making along the way.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not what I would call a smooth road. There has definitely been a learning curve to small business ownership and starting up my own company. I’m a one-man-operation and at times it can be overwhelming when I’m overloaded with orders and still have to do the books, market and prepare for the next event. I’ve had to self-teach myself design software (Adobe Illustrator), how to market on social media well, how to use all the pre-treating and direct-to-garment equipment. It’s definitely been a “process,” but I love it. It’s has been so rewarding to see people love & buy products I have created. In just a short time I already have repeat customers that come to me often for new projects.

Verry Merry Designs – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Direct-to-Garment t-shirt printing company. I specialize in custom t-shirts, pillow covers, tea towels, etc… but I also sell boutique apparel I am most proud of my work quality and business ethics. I take pride in my designs and the finished product I offer. And I love the fact that as a business owner I can chose what I want to print or not print. I choose not to print any derogatory or profane. I believe in spreading love and joy rather than sarcasm or negativity. I feel our world already has enough of that to deal with.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success? That’s easy. Family is my success. With three children of my own and two step-children, our family is continually growing. We currently have four bonus children (in-laws) and six grandchildren. They are my world. If I am loving them and doing my job as a parent and grandparent by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with them, then I have been successful. Business wise I feel I’m successful if I am doing something meaningful that I enjoy and am contributing to other peoples joy. That defines success to me.
