Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Moss.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I worked at Seattle’s Best Coffee right out of high school. It was located in the airport and is still one of the best jobs I’ve ever had. I was able to meet so many people, and I fell in love with coffee at the same time. I didn’t realize how coffee could bridge gaps and create relationships until I was older. It was very intriguing, and I knew I wanted to work in coffee.
I began speaking about it more and more, and I knew that a coffee shop was needed on the east side of Fort Worth because there aren’t any. An amazing door opened to begin working on a coffee shop for the east side. I am currently in the process of opening Black Coffee near Texas Wesleyan University. We are working on the build out and will hopefully be opening soon!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle is that everything is on me. I have to make sure there is money, employees, policies, everything! It’s not easy doing something so big alone. I am still hoping to bring in someone as passionate about coffee and community as I am, but for now, I am doing what is necessary to make sure great coffee is available to the community.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Black Coffee is my coffee shop. We will be serving specialty coffee drinks, teas, frappes, and a light food menu. I’m proud to be a minority woman that has an opportunity to assist in building up our community in a way that enhances the culture already there. This is what will set Black Coffee apart. I don’t want to change the area, I want to enhance it.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very talkative. My mom would call me Max because I talked as much as a character on an 80s show called, Max Headroom. I was interested in learning new things. My mom was into random facts and puzzles so I learned so much just sitting under her.
