Meet Miaa Fisher of Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miaa Fisher

Miaa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From Kalamazoo to YouTube: My Journey as a Mother, Advocate, and Aspiring Influencer

As I sit down to share my story, I am filled with gratitude for the winding path that has brought me to this moment. My name is Mia Fisher, and I am a proud mother of four beautiful children, a devoted wife of 20 years, and an aspiring YouTube influencer and entrepreneur. Hailing from Kalamazoo, Michigan, my journey has been one shaped by faith, passion, and a fierce commitment to advocating for change in our society.

Growing up in Kalamazoo, I found joy in education. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I pursued my master’s, fueled by a deep love for learning. Education has always been my sanctuary, a place where I could explore ideas and dream of a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. It is this passion for knowledge that eventually led me to embrace a new cultural landscape when my husband, who is originally from Nigeria, and I started our family.

Being a mother is one of my greatest joys. However, motherhood comes with its unique challenges. Our family is blessed with a diverse set of needs: I have a wonderful child who is deaf and another who is on the autism spectrum. Through this journey, I have become an ardent advocate for children and their rights, particularly those with special needs. It is my mission to ensure that every child feels seen, heard, and valued, regardless of their circumstances.

Alongside my advocacy for children, I am also passionate about women’s rights and diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a revert to Islam, I have come to appreciate the importance of amplifying voices that are often marginalized, especially within my own faith community. I strive to lift up women’s rights in both secular and religious contexts, fighting for a society that embraces diversity and equity for all.

In addition to my advocacy, I have cultivated a deep love for beauty and fashion. After years of experimenting with makeup and style, I felt a calling to share my passion through YouTube. It was a leap of faith; however, I realized that my platform could serve a dual purpose. Not only could I inspire others with beauty tips and fashion advice, but I could also use my influence to raise awareness about the issues close to my heart. My goal is to create a community where we celebrate our differences, support each other, and uplift underrepresented voices.

My journey to becoming an influencer and entrepreneur is still unfolding, but I believe that each step I take is a greater part of my purpose. Every video I create, every post I share, and every conversation I engage in is driven by my passion for making a positive impact. I am dedicated to not only growing my platform but also to ensuring it becomes a space for empowerment and advocacy.

As I reflect on my life so far, I am reminded that our journeys are often filled with unexpected turns, but those very turns lead us to where we are meant to be. From Kalamazoo to YouTube, I hope to inspire others to embrace their stories, celebrate their journeys, and advocate for the lives of those who may not have a voice.

Thank you for joining me on this adventure. I am excited for what lies ahead and for the opportunity to connect with others who share my vision for a more inclusive, compassionate world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

While my journey has been rewarding, it certainly hasn’t been smooth. One of the most significant challenges I’ve faced was the loss of my son, Adam, who was a stillbirth. This experience profoundly impacted me and shaped my perspective on life.

Additionally, I had to move far away from my family, which made it difficult to maintain those essential connections, especially as I have embraced a different religion than they practice. This shift has added layers of complexity to my family dynamics.

Moving to Nigeria brought its own set of challenges as well. I had to quickly learn and assimilate into a new culture, which required significant effort and adaptability on my part. Navigating different parts of the country and understanding diverse cultural practices has been a steep learning curve.

Although these obstacles have been difficult, they have also taught me resilience, compassion, and the importance of community. I believe that overcoming these struggles has made me stronger and more empathetic.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

As I embark on my journey with my YouTube channel But First, Makeup2025, I see my creativity as a vibrant tapestry woven from my experiences, passions, and the diverse cultures I’ve encountered. My channel revolves around makeup, where I aim to celebrate beauty in all its forms while also sharing my unique perspective shaped by my personal journey.

I believe my influence lies in my ability to connect with my audience on a deeper level. The struggles I’ve faced, from overcoming the loss of my son and moving to a new country, to learning and embracing different cultures, have equipped me with stories that resonate. I want to use those experiences to inspire others, encouraging them to find their own beauty and strength, no matter the circumstances.

As I explore various makeup styles and techniques, I aim to merge traditional beauty practices with contemporary trends, creating a space where viewers can appreciate the richness of diversity in the beauty world. My goal is to not only share makeup tips but also foster a sense of belonging and understanding among my viewers.

Ultimately, I hope my channel becomes a haven for creativity, inclusivity, and empowerment, where everyone can find inspiration. I’m excited about where this journey will take me, and I look forward to engaging with my audience as we grow together.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was very shy and introverted which was odd to most because I am 6’2 and became 6 feet tall by 6th Grade. I always felt awkward but also like I was the center of attention.

For years I struggled with loving my natural self. My height has always been an advantage for me, especially in sports which I played through out high school and some college. But I never really found my confidence or my voice until I became a Mother. Advocating for my children, and the children of others, is where I found the strength and discipline to learn to speak up and speak out.

I love to write, I have a book being published this year titled Brave Faces for children and it’s meant to encourage them and anyone who comes across it that everyone of us has a brave face we just have to learn it.

My faith is the overall foundation of who I am and what drives me. Wearing hijab is my proudest achievement as a Muslim in society and I love to encourage others to live their true selves no matter the obstacles they face.
