Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Hill.
Michael, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a youth, I was bullied physically, mentally and emotionally all through grade school. I began to dread recess because that’s when the bullies would await my arrival. Throughout that time I began to silence my own voice and question the purpose of me being alive. Even despite the phenomenal efforts of my parents and constant prayers, it didn’t change the fact that the wounds healed at home would be fresh again by the time I step foot on the playground. Sore arms, cuts and scratches, traveling rumors and constant weeping became my reality. One of the major factors that aided me in propelling forward was my re-discovery of music.
My father pursued music production as a side hobby, so most of my childhood was falling asleep to the muffled beats emitting from the next room. I learned to love it. I soon found my voice in making beats and songs on the family iPad. That love then outstretched into writing, scriptwriting, film production and so forth. Through my struggles, I found my voice not just in music, but in all forms of media. As I grew older, outside kids of different backgrounds yet similar struggles latched onto me as a way of also expressing their internal and external battles. I very quickly found myself acquiring skills of all kinds such as photography, design, lighting and so on to accommodate the varying talents of the eclectic mix of kids approaching me.
I eventually became an all-encompassing hub for these broken but talented kids. In a small town, finding a 14-year-old walking production company was kinda rare. I gained the confidence to enter film competitions, attend arts summer camps, go through career academies and gain a plethora of awards and accolades from doing so. Some years later, that hub turned into a company and the job of one became the job of my now five member team. This all lead to the Sunday that changed my life.
Towards the closing of service this great feeling took over me and played before my eyes a highlight reel of everything, I had accomplished. It was at the end of this feeling that I heard the phrase “The next Disney”. Now, with us being coined “the next Disney” we continuously strive to accomplish every sense of that word from keeping a clean and family-friendly outpour of content to maintaining the highest quality achievable with our content.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been easy at all. Attempting to build a large production company in a small town while still attending school is an immediate recipe for disaster. In my earlier years of pursuing this I had to push through racial profiling and bullying, In my more recent young adult years, I’ve experienced the struggle of being taken seriously and gaining online support such as shares, views, subscriptions and so on. Although I am in no way driven by views and likes, those interactions online equate to importance and having a lack of those things created a conflict within me of whether I should drop everything and only focus on academics, or continue to push forward despite the “reality” of things.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the MicHill Entertainment story. Tell us more about your work.
MicHill Entertainment is a youth ran production company striving to create arts-based opportunities for the youth and any other creatives outside of the school system. We do photography, music production, video production, modeling, design, dance, clothing design and so much more. Our ultimate goal is to have produced a constant stream of clean and non-political content that touches and unites all people with, of course, a foundation on God and Christ. We want to Create a hub for all artist and creatives to connect and collaborate. A new Hollywood.
What sets us apart from so many others is the scale at which we dream and work. We live in a time where everyone else wants to do it solo or have their tightly nit crew. We, however, want to build a community, an industry, an individual and uniquely grown Hollywood South. We are different because we’re consistently working towards something so massive so young. We have the mindsets of moguls in the bodies of youth. The quality of our content and the way in which we market ourselves is unlike any other. Lastly, what really sets us apart is the uniting factor found in everything we produce.
It’s clean! Us being clean opens us up to every single demographic: young, old, religious, minority, married, single, etc. We’ve seen our content make kids laugh and adults cry and we feel extremely blessed to have had that unwavering effect no matter what the background of the consumer. That’s what makes us different. We’re a brewing massive movement with potential massive effects awaiting to be exposed.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My team and I (Gabriel Hill CFO, Spencer Yang CMO, Reilly Jones Creative director and Joshua Cowan creative director) see MicHill Entertainment growing into a worldwide Disney Level franchise. I see all the branches of the company growing into a massive world-changing businesses.
We see CampWavy (our summer camp for ages 8-18) evolving into an academic academy that teaches kids the opportunities in media. MeltedTV becoming a franchise with millions of followers. Alternative (our clothing branch) collaborating with artists to release custom lines that innovate the clothing industry. A larger than life safe haven for all arts people. Lastly, we see a building that will house it all, not too far from where we already live. A larger than life production building.
