Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Hix.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Michael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up in Amarillo, TX. I was always around music. Needless to say, I grew up in a musical family. My grandfather was a musician and he played with Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys (western swing). Aside from that, a majority of my family sang…grandmother, mom, aunt, etc… so I was always around music. I starting singing and leading singing at my church when I was seven years old. Growing up, I sang in school choirs, and performed in local theaters.
At age 14, I started my first band. We played together all throughout high school and even played after we graduated. We had the privilege of traveling throughout Texas and Oklahoma, performing with groups such as Bowling For Soup, The All American Rejects, Sugar Ray… even some 80s groups like Eddie Money, Quiet Riot, Loverboy, and Brett Michaels. It was definitely a learning experience.
In 2002, I auditioned for a television show in Houston, TX called “Gimme The Mic.” Being a part of that show allowed me the opportunity to open up for Cher in The Woodlands, TX. Also, from that show, I began working with a vocal coach by the name of Tom McKinney. He told me about a show called Johnnie High’s Country Music Revue in Arlington, TX. LeAnn Rimes, Steve Holy, Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, amongst several others had performed on this show before, so I thought I’d give it a shot.
I auditioned for the show and became a regular performing on that stage. Not only did I sing on Johnnie’s show, but I also emceed, produced, and worked for him and the theater (Arlington Music Hall) for 5 years. In 2013, I ended up leaving the Arlington Music Hall and began pursuing a full-time career in performing. Along the way, I’ve had some incredible opportunities and doors continue to open.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not necessarily a smooth road the entire route. Some things have been easier than others… and at times it has been extremely difficult. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions. For me, I feel that even though I enjoy chasing my dreams… I miss out on A LOT… whether it is family events, holidays, bettering relationships… a lot gets pushed to the side. Not necessarily on purpose, but timing wise. I truly miss spending quality time with loved ones
Please tell us about Michael Hix Entertainment.
My wife Ginny and I started our company, Michael Hix Entertainment, back in 2013. We specialize in providing quality LIVE performance and entertainment for concerts, corporate and private events, casinos, festivals, clubs, etc.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Being involved in as much stuff as I could. Growing up, I tried to do it all… singing, dancing, acting, comedy, modeling, sports, etc. You name it… I tried to do it. I made some great friendships along the way… it through trial and error, I found out what worked best for me.

I have seen Michael Hix & The Holla many times, I have even traveled to Canada and other states to see them perform. They ALWAYS put on the most entertaining shows. Michael is the best entertainer I have ever seen. I will continue to follow him and his shows. If you want great entertainment, you won’t find anyone to beat Michael. His wife sings with him as well, and she really helps take the show over the top. Her voice is angelic and beautiful and her performances always give me goosebumps. I HIGHLY recommend anything they do.

Very informative article! Hope to see you again before long. Will try to check your & Ginny’s schedule so if you come near us, we can possibly attend. I guess you know that I married Eileen (Light) from Brownsboro, tried out with the small Heidenheimer church, and was hired Dec. 3rd. We moved to 4417 Cactus Trl, Temple TX 76502-3242; 254-314-2299 land; 806-282-8818 cell. Am very happy to be preaching regularly & feel I’m contributing more to the Lord’s cause. I surely miss Miss Vicki, but am thankful to have another good, solid Christian woman in my life. [Fell off U-Haul–busted up some ribs, dislocated finger, with abrasions–fun-fun!]. Photos show you & Ginny “looking good”! Lots of love, Terry (& Eileen).
