Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Brabson.
Hi Michele, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started experimenting with my hair when I was young. By middle school, I fell in love with hair and it became my passion. Originally from Parma, Ohio, I married my high school sweetheart in 2012. After he joined the Marine Corps, we moved to Yuma, Arizona. In 2016 he got out and we moved to Grand Prairie, where my story begins. I worked in the service industry for almost 15 years before having my son in 2018. I knew it was time to make a change so, I enrolled at Paul Mitchell the School Arlington just one year later. Going there changed my life. I checked out a few different schools but, after touring PMTS in Arlington, I knew I found my place. They opened up a ton of new doors for me through school activities. I participated in fundraising, Preview (Halloween-themed fashion show), and volunteered at homeless shelters. PMTS became a second home to me and I loved going to school every day. The days were demanding and rewarding. With help from my instructors, I was taught to create a safe and creative space to work in for myself and my clients. Now, I am a confident stylist specializing in color, working at The Lab House in Grand Prairie.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
While it has not always been easy, the road has been fairly smooth. I feel like the school I chose had a large part to do with that. I decided to take full advantage of my education which, in return, helped me grow and be ready for the salon much faster than most people. Since becoming a full-time stylist, I am much more efficient and knowledgeable about hair. I look forward to learning more and continuing to grow my cosmetology career.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For work I am a cosmetologist, I get to style, color, and cut hair all day. Women come to me with their inspiration and I bring it to life. My specialties are women’s color and haircuts. I am in the process of learning extensions to add to my list of services. What sets me apart from others is the connection I am able to create with my clients. I enjoy being able to spend time with my clients and learning new things about them. People are so different and everyone has their own stories. I am most proud of my work ethic. Every day I am eager to learn and make my clients feel beautiful.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising about me is how much I love holidays. Growing up, my mom loved the holidays too. We would get all of the family together and celebrate. As an adult, with a family of my own, not much has changed. I still love to decorate and there is not one holiday I do not have decorations for!
