Meet Michelle Dukes of Michelle Dukes Photography in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Dukes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The gift of a Kodak Instamatic camera as a child instilled in me a forever love of photography. I took pictures of everything around me! That little camera went wherever I ventured, I made memories never to be forgotten! Many of them are surfacing as I write! My love and passion for taking pictures continued to develop throughout my life. My passion was taking pictures of animals and nature. My photography today focuses on the outdoors. I seek out a beauty in nature while capturing the essence of the setting with my vision. With each new camera, my skill set improved. I am a self-taught photographer with the exception of a few workshops and tutorials. I am evolving as an artist with every picture I take. While my efficacy in the photographic process continues to grow, it has only been recently that I started taking my photography to new heights.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Challenges come with anything worth venturing into. With the plethora of photographers, it is important to set yourself apart. This can be a struggle as cell phone cameras advance with each new model. DSR cameras are becoming less complicated producing a saturation of photographers in every genre. Self-doubt can easily take over if you do not have a strong sense of self. I have to be unyielding in not comparing my art with other photographers. I believe in myself and the art I create. My photography sets itself apart as no one else sees what I go through my lens. There is no box when creating art!

Please tell us about Michelle Dukes Photography.
I am a digital photographer. My interests vary from landscapes, scenes in nature, animals, and abstract art. Being outdoors on a beach or hiking trail, photographing the beauty around me has become a healing therapy. My art has been described as breathtaking, graceful, flowing and beautiful. There are no constraints in my photography, and expressing myself is infinite. My abstract art is a side of creating my sense of style. Through digital manipulation, I can create a photo transformation that is unique to me and the images I capture. Each abstract is evolved from an original picture of nature. Sources of inspiration are endless, fueling my passion. I am a work in progress. My desire is to convey in my art one of affirming life and beauty through my images.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have broadened my exposure, and expanded on the proud moments by stepping out of the box sooner. My art has brought numerous proud experiences. I have won several awards locally and online. Most recently, I won Outstanding Image Award and placed in the Show Room Hall of Fame in Austin, Texas. I am proud of every print sold, and enthralled when people send me pictures of my art in their homes! Most importantly, I am proud to share my art with others. My photography brings the outdoors inside. In an often black and white world, I want to remind people of the endless beautiful nature around us. I believe God gave me a gift, and I want to share His beauty through my diverse images.
