Meet Michelle Tran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Tran.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve always enjoyed art and creating in many forms. Before Neato Bonito (my current brand and website) became an e-commerce site, it was a DIY blog that I ran with my good friend Margaret. We created and posted DIY projects around fashion, home, and food. It was a great creative outlet and we had a lot of fun with it for a few years. After I had my son, Grey, it became difficult to keep up with the content and we took a break from it. Shortly after I started drawing and painting again (which I’ve done off and on since childhood) for fun when I had time. It quickly became my new outlet for de-stressing and expressing my creativity.

Please tell us about your art.
I create illustrated products for parents and children. My favorite medium is watercolor and I enjoy painting everything from people to buildings to animals. I gravitate towards kid’s illustration because I love the whimsical aspects of it. There are no rules and the more imaginative the better (in my opinion). The goal of my artwork is to spark imagination and creativity in both parents and their little ones. Childhood is such a special time and I want to help bring out that sense of magic and wonderment that kids experience as they navigate the world around them.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
There are so many talented artists out there, I think one of the biggest challenges can be honing in on your unique style in order to differentiate yourself. For example, a huge advantage of social media for artists is that people from all over the world can discover your work. On the same end, it’s a very saturated market and can be hard to stand out from the crowd.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see my work and purchase illustrated prints at neatobonito.com. I also frequently update Instagram for the brand (@neatobonito) and my personal account (@sea_chelle_).
