Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Jones.
Mike, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started from working for the City of Dallas as a Code Compliance Officer. While there I moved up into the ranks working in Administration working on special assignment. From there, I was promoted to work in various positions of Reorganization Coordinator, Project Coordinator, Fleet Manager, Budget, and District Manager.
While working for the City of Dallas I gave back to the community and, I ran for city council and I became the Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Glenn Heights. In addition, served as a Director for the Glenn Heights Improvement Corporation, Member for the City of Wilmer Type A Economic Development Board, and Criminal Justice Chair of the NAACP.
I entered the real estate profession when the economy was down in 2009. I worked part-time as a realtor with late-night showings to supplement funds to support my family. From there I gained experience where I then furthered my real estate profession by teaching real estate at Tarrant County Community College, Cedar Valley College, and North Lake College as an Adjunct Professor. I could not stop there, and I tapped into the Commercial Real Estate industry where it is approx. 3% African Americans. In that, I now have become fluent in the area and I now teach commercial real estate to increase minorities in the industry. I recently obtained approval to teach continuing education courses at the Collin County Association of Realtors board and I plan on teaching at all of the local boards in the DFW metroplex
Lastly, I have been serving as the Presiding Judge for the Justice of the Peace Court in Precinct 4 where I was elected in 2018. I preside of real estate evictions, small claims, debt claims, minor criminal traffic, and various cases.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I have to juggle first and foremost my family (wife and four kids including the new seven-month-old baby), and then my full-time job, elected official, businessman, and professor. The struggles come into play with time management and ensuring that I provide quality to everything so I do not lack in any areas. Sometimes not being at home not helping with the kid’s homework and other household duties during the week and the weekend. My two boys (14 and 11) have added on additional responsibility by becoming entrepreneurs in starting their own lawn service in the Desoto area.
Franchise Real Estate Group – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

We are a dynamic duo to work all sides of real estate through a business and firm together. I am proud of this company because as a broker, I am able to write the checks, make financial decisions, and mentor any upcoming agents. What sets me apart from others is that I love to help and mentor people. I reached the level that I have by receiving help and it is a calling to give back to others. Franchise Real Estate Group is a minority commercial brokerage that is making a footprint in the commercial real estate industry.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success is reaching a personal level of peace and stability through a strong foundation. In that, I have built this foundation by having the mindset and attitude that “I have no choice.” This means I have no choice to fail or be comfortable. I have to strive to always better myself.
